I know I really should play a Bongo to find out what the fuss is about but in the meantime are there any reviews anyone knows of?
Or comparisons with SR's? (even better)

From hunting down threads I found out the body is basswood - not the most highly esteemed wood for sure but I did read that it 'clicked' with the basic instrument.

Just a tad intrigued now . . more information needed . . .

Man, you just gotta play one, no words I know can do it justice. I can see where the Bongo ain't for everybody, but it's a killer instrument, I'm just now really getting into mine and it is one of those instruments you have to play to get it, not because of the different look, but the tone and the control, it's a very live instrument. Modern yes, but totally understands what came before. Go play one and see if it's for you.

I truly love my SR5 and did lots of good gigs with it. It sounds great and I shouldn't want any more.

I now have a Bongo 5 single H. I liked the sound, the band loves it and says it is the best sounding bass they ever heard. Everyone that has heard me playing it pays more attention to the bass player than they did when I was playing the SR5 that is killer in it's own right.

I can't explain it either.

Bongers is rad, totally different beasts. My HH SR4 sounds 10 times bigger and better than any bongo i've ever played, but that's my opinion, ands that of the fine folks next door to me.

It sure is 'pearl lavender' - I was told by EB themselves. I saw the color in a BP mag once and this one popped up last xmas. The dark pickguard softens it more than white ones do. EB said the color didn't last too long.

Bongo's are simply a weapon.....be careful handling them.....for they are known to tear off some heads when angered. My Stealth has just about ripped the paint off my guitarists guitar........the drums are still weeping in a corner somewhere in the rehearsal studio in the fetal position........handle with care!

ok ok ... i'll keep an eye out and try and find what makes these things tick and how much they cost ... I think I'll have problems getting a new one for a sensible price in Oz tho'. I'll investigate further . . .

A new Bongo in Oz will cost you between AUD$2500-$3000. Used, they sell in the US from US$850-$1100, which means after shipping and GST you could import a used Bongo for around AUD$1600-$2000.

Bongos review themselves. If you see some in a shop, make sure they have a color you like, or can at least get along with. If none of the colors are tolerable to you at all, then
