when i bought my ray in 2008 it came with a 8cm long steel trussrod adjuster . not only is it good for adjusting the neck but , i recently measured its width and ( correct me if im wrong) it seems to measure at 2.4 mm or maybe a bit more than that . So i use it as a rough guide to adjusting the factory string height at the 12th fret for the time being till i get an exact measuring device to do this . Its surprising how big a difference that fraction of a mm decides wether you like it or not . Ive always gone for a higher action with my basses , but was wondering , if anyone knows if a majority percentage of MM bass players in this forum set their string height to factory and leave it at that ? I realise also its personal taste but was just interested to know .

First I set the relief to the classic biz card clearance.
Then, the saddle height goes low as possible before
any fret buzz begins. How low is that ? Thaz gonna
depend upon your playing habits, string type, tuning,
and possibly some other variables ... so, for me, the
ears have it ... not some physical measuring tool, for
saddle height. But I do use a "tool" [biz card] to set
set the relief. YMMV.

Interesting you should say ," the saddle height going as low as possible " The new bongo was set way up , but that was done by the store before it was shipped to me . Ive only used the a tool i made at 2.4 mm to set string height @ 12th fret . I dropped the saddles down as low as possible bearing in mind the biz card clearance . Right answer Thanks ! just what i wanted to hear .

Interssting you should say "the saddle height going as low as possible" The new bongo ,s was set way up , They,d done that in the store before it was shipped to me . So i did that after id checked it with the card , it makes sense . i made a tool at 2.4 mm to set string height @ the 12th fret . The saddles really needed to come down . Bongo ,s tuning now is spot-on , ive got 00 @ open @ 12 @ 24 . on all strings . Only since ive had this new bass have i paid this much attention to getting it technically right . Right answer thanks ! just what i wanted to hear

The EBMM compensated nut gets you the 00 at open/12/24
but its designed on the assumption that your ax is set up to
a modest string height and relief, such as you now enjoy.
