Hi folks,

since I own my Pet only a couple of weeks (and I love it!!!) I am still a little bit concerned about its headstock. I saw a lot of JPs here in the forum with shiny decals on the head. Mine appears to fade away (not even yellow), although the guitar has been slightly used up to now and it is made in 2005. I know it depends a lot on how much sunlight one has during picture session. But even outside in the sun the Ernie Ball/Music Man decal is hardly viewable.

So what's an explanation for these colour change? Just compare the picture below - on the left side is my Pet and on the right side one pic I found here in the forum.

Thanks a lot in advance for your help!

Thanks for the fast response, BP. But I don't really understand what you are trying to tell me with that answer (sorry - I am not a native speaker). Both guitars in the picture above have a Mystic Dream finish - so what's the matter about my faded one?

Thanks again for your support.

As a viewer the only thing that I can comment is that the photo comparisons aren't fair. The first picture needs to be done on a higher resolution camera in daylight similar to the second photograph.

My mystic doesn't look that much different than the one on the left if I recall.

You're absolutely right. But: The central point is not the picture's sharpness or the camera's resolution. I was asking about the strongness of the yellow letters of the EBMM-writing. You can believe me that the colour of my Pet doesn't match the example from the right picture under any sunlight circumstances. So I just wanted to know what reasons could be responsible for that uncommon colour-turning.

Still looking for answers ...

You seem to be implying that the words are fading over time... is that really the case? Or do you just mean to say that the words are not as bright as other Pets you have seen? The first option seems really unlikely to me.

Yes, I meant that the word's brightness is much lighter than on other comparable Petrucci models. What could be the reason, since it's a relatively young instrument?

I don't know exactly! It appears to be more golden than the usual EBMM writings that I have seen onm JPs. Do these signs differ significantly? I just want some explanation why all other Pets that I have seen have a headstock with an easy-to-read EBMM-sign on it (with bright yellow decal), while the EBMM can't really be read even from a small distance on my guitar. It's not a big thing, I'm just curious about the "why".

Thanks for your answers, anyway.

mystic dream and purple accdept the screen differently

I'm guessing that BP is saying that the mystic dream color doesn't take the ink from the logo consistently. So, it will show up lighter on some guitars than it will on others.

get a Gold sharpie and just trace over it. Duh?

Lol..

Well its not something I would worry about. And BP said something that makes sense, and since hes teh main Ernie Ball man, he knows his facts :D

But Its a great pet you have there, how does it play. I'm saving up for one infact with out a job, and just 100 bucks saved.

Well, firstly my Pet is simply a great guitar! I used to play a PRS Custom 22 as my main guitar on gigs. But due to its ultra-comfortable shaping and its incredible versatility the EBMM claimed that position from day one when I got it. The neck feels very smooth altough I was used to play on fat necks like my Les Paul Custom or the mentioned PRS. But the Petrucci felt right from the very beginning. That's something I wouldn't have expected because I bought it with the idea of having a good exercise-guitar. :D But now my whole world of music spins around the JP6 - crazy, isn't it!?

Found some other Pet pic at musicmanbassman.fotopic.net with that kind of faded EBMM-sign. Appears to be not uncommon on some JPs. Have a look!
