How do the necks differ? I really hate painted necks.. but someone told me that the painted neck on the family reserve feels basically the same as the unpainted ones. is this true? and what else is the difference between the two guitars besides the finish?

Hi, Tone, welcome aboard!

The first advice right on - do the search before asking. :) As You can certainly imagine, that topic has been raised quite a few times already and has been thoroughly discussed by many forumites, myself included.

Yeah. It's been discussed before. My quick answer is that the necks feel different to me. I think that the BFR's neck is fatter, but I still find it very comfortable. I don't find the paint to be an issue at all.

anyone think we'll ever get the option for those family reserve finishes with an unfinished neck?

Short answer no. Long answer I believe BP or Dargin stated that the reason for the finished neck is it's what JP wanted followed by the fact that mahogany is very porous and needs to be finished to avoid warping.

Short answer; it feels different, but not bad in the slightest. I'm pretty sure I'd adjust pretty quickly.

Hey Larry, I'm from Frankfort. Right next door. Two ballers from da Sout Side!
