Hey guys, Yesterday I walked over to my guitar wall and noticed the strap button on the bottom of my axis was off. I took it off the wall and looked at the strap lock and it fell apart!!! I'm lucky I didnt have the guitar strapped on when the lock failed, that would've been a disaster. I'm gonna get me some schallers, I never had any problems with them. The funny thing is I know no one else was in my house, I'm positive no one touched it, I played the guitar the day before, strapped on, and put it back on the wall. It just failed on it's own. Ive never had any issues with other EB products, I hope the great guys and gals at EB take note of this and improve the straplocks in the future.

bischero you are a really good guy and I believe there was an issue. But like any item where there are thousands produced a faulty or defected one is going to get out. I think it would be unfair to label the whole companies strap locks as not trust worthy due to one incident which is the first of its kind that I heard. I sit in the store sometimes and guys will not buy a brand of guitar strings because they had one break while restringing. Then again I have had friends have an issue with a new Rolex or Mercedes they just drove out of the show room with. I say then go with Schallers but I guarantee you could google someone who had an issue similar or worse than yourself with a set of those and I would say the same thing for them-sh!t happens! The good thing is that your guitar is fine.

It's human nature to assume that anything that happens to ourselves will be representative of the wider public experience, and for the wider public to assume that anything that happens to an individual will happen to them too. Those assumptions are usually very wrong.

That's why we always ask that customer service issues are dealt with by customer service and not simply posted on the official company forum as not a good product.

Anyway, see my signature for customer service contact info.

From that detailed description of exactly what failed, with close up pictures, I'm sure the EB folks will get right on it.

Oh, wait.......

I had the strap part of a EB strap lock fall apart once, while I was playing it. I caught the guitar so no damage was done. I just put on another EB one and it's been smooth sailing ever since. Good luck with your situation!

Is it a myth or can you use the bottle tops off a Grolsch lager bottle as a strap lock?

I had the nut fall off my Schallers without me knowing. Relic'ing happens. That design requires some vigilance regarding the nuts. I've also had a Dunlop fall completely apart on me but I caught my guitar on that incident. The bearings in those are really tiny and almost impossible to find when they let loose.

The rubber gasket from Grolsch bottles work great!

On mine, the thin nuts that holds the strap button tight seem to come loose over time so I am always careful to hand tighten them periodically.

When I went on holiday in the UK last year I was sat outside a pub and there was a crate of empty Grolsch bottles - so I took them (the washers)all off. If you want a couple PM me your name/address.

Cheers

Personally I have had pretty good luck with EB Strap locks. It even fits in my Silhouette Special case with the strap on the guitar. The 20th however doesn't fit as well... it's close, but I don't want to really cram it in there.

Yeah, any mass produced parts will fail on occasion. That should be accepted. Having one strap lock out of thousands be faulty isn't unacceptable. I do agree with BPthe proper way to handle this would have been to contact customer service.

I have EB locks on all of my Balls. (4) never in the 4+ years since they have been on has anything other than reliability happened. They haven't broken in the middle of the night or while I'm playing them so it seems as though this really has to be some sort of strange occorance. EB has built their reputation on quality. Did you contact customer service? These guys do a great job of taking care of you.

Guys, in no way do I mean any disrespect to the ebmm family. I just wanted to let you guys know. As per customer service and taking pics of the locks, I feel no need to, I didn't tell you guys about this to get new locks, I just wanted give you a heads up. I tossed the lock cuz it literally broke into pieces after I squeezed it to put the lock back on the button. All of the tiny ball barinrgs fell out. I love ebmm and mean no disrespect. Thanks for the reply big poppa.

Yeah lets take all personalities out of it and let me use this as an example...

Im sorry that you had an issue. Here is what is worse than not contacting us and allowing a fully staffed customer service department try to help you. You are giving the world a heads up that our strap locks may be faulty....that is difficult to take...if you want to help your fellow musicians you let us fix it and maybe we can find a problem that we can fix for future users...there is also the slight chance that something else happened.

please contact us and let us replace them and see them so we can all live happily ever after
