I still have my '85 Randall RG100ES, A SS amp at 120w, but really a 100W head. That's when I was in the whole "Pantera and Metallica" phase as a younger one. I had to get it because it was the one Dimebag and George Lynch were using at the time.

Think I'm gonna go down the ENGL road this time around.

When I was gigging, I went through the following amps:

Peavey Ultra and 4x12 Crate cab with V-30s

Marshall JCM 900 combo

Peavey Classic 30 combo

Peavey 5150 combo w/V-30s

Mesa F-50 combo

Mesa Nomad combo

Vox Valvetronix

Line 6 Flextone 2 combo with extension cab

Budda Superdrive 18 combo

Out of all of the amps, my top choice for tone, versitility, and ease of use is the Budda Superdrive 18 by a country mile. It is a transparent amp that has great response and killer tone. You actually get to hear the tone of the guitar as opposed to the tone of the amp. The only drawback is you can't hide behind the gain of the amp, meaning you can't be a sloppy player with this amp, because you will hear everything. Don't get me wrong, you can get every bit as much gain out of this amp as you can from a 5150, but it's usable gain. It also cleans up very nicely. The clean tone is more akin to a Vox clean, rather than a Fender clean, but it is very nice.

A close second is the Mesa Nomad. It has basically the same transparancy as the Budda, but the tone of the Budda is superior IMO. The Mesa also has alot of knobs on the front. It enables a great deal of control over your tone, but I just like the control section to be a little less cluttered.

If I could only have one amp for the rest of my life though, it would be a Bogner Extacy. It has alot of knobs and switches too, but the thing just sounds so good and is so versitile, you could use it for anything. The drawback to that amp is that I would have to pay more for it than I did for the last car I bought.

BTW.............Our band played Classic Rock. Everything from AC/DC to Heart to ZZ Top. We also played newer 90s stuff like Toadies and The Donnas.

Behringer V-Tone halfstack. Forget the model of it, but I love it. Found it sitting in between some Marshalls and Fenders, and it blew the crap away from all the amps I tried that day. Which surprises everyone cause people think Behringer = Crap.

I pretty much just use its head for all my tones. My pedal is only used for a small gain boost during some solos (Depends on style), tuner, and wah.

I mainly play progressive metal/rock. But because we are progressive, the styles are all over the place

i play whatever i need to :)
Mesa F-50 head and Mesa 1x12 cab. i use a vox tonelab SE aswell (mainly because where i play isnt large enough to really turn the amp up enough) so the tonelab works a treat, still get some thick lead sounds to geat classic o/drive sounds, aswell as all of the effects. :)

How is the F-50 head? I've been meaning to look into this one, but can't seem to find someone who owned it.

love it! :) nice and simple to use and has some amazing tones. i had a markIV but it was waaaaay too much for what i needed, then tried a triaxis&20:20, again too much.. but tried the f-50 and fell in love. ultimately id love a roadking, but here in australia they are far too expensive (getting close to $9000AUD)
what a blessing on my back the head is too... because i can only imagine how much the combo weighs... the head is still pretty darn heavy (heavier than my mates crate tube combo)
but overall this is a fantastic amp.
