Favorite HS pickup settings?

Hey friends,

I've had my sterling 5 hs for a little while now, and couldn't be happier. Love all the tonal variety I can get.

but I'm curious what setting you guys have found that you liked. Or what settings you've found to emulate classic sounds.

I recently put flats on my Sterling 4 HS and I'm digging it.

One trick I tried lately: Switch bass into any humbucker position. Turn amp to 20% too loud. Turn volume knob on bass down to appropriate stage volume. Now you have the ability to boost your single-coil volume if needed.

That's all I got. I use position 1 (bridge hum) and 4 (1 neck + 1 bridge) the most, with position 5 (neck single) coming in a close second. Those are some great sounds there. I don't EQ that much, the different pickup selections are enough variety for me. I probably use 25% of what this bass is capable of.

i love the 3 position with all 3 coils on my Sterling HS 4 string. you get that classic Sterling H sound and the single coil ads a lot depth to the sound. since there is no blend i have been experimenting with the S's pick up height to balance the 2 pick ups.

When I had my sterling, I loved position 4 (neck and bridge single) with bass and mids slightly boosted. I also experimented with my hand position and managed to get different tones for different songs with different hand positions. Very responsive pups and preamplifier. I kinda do miss that bass.

Personally I like the best all coils (position 3) when playing practice with a band without PA support, or at home just through my amp-head/EBS 210 box!

Next favorite for home practice through quality studio headphones is position 2, only bridge single coil + phantom!
This position is in live use too, when playing in bad sounding spaces with lots of headroom and echo!

Third, and mostly in use is position 1, sweetspot H in series, ...using it 90% at live giggin' with PA support!
At live gigs also use position 2 as I wrote above and for a few songs, so as position 3 for some occasionally slapping!

To be honest, other positions I don't use much, just for demonstration to some friends musicians and time after time at home!
