anyone own one of these or had much chance to play one? i'd like to buy one but i'm not sure if it's really what i want. in a fretless i tend to like sort of "modern" sounding basses if that makes any sense. my current fretless are a pedulla buzz, peavey bquad, and status empathy and they are all 4 stringers. i've been tossing around the idea of ordering a 20th anniv HH fretless but i don't want to drop the change on one if i'm not sure i'll like it!! i know i would like a fretted...

thoughts?

You like the fusion-y type fretlesses - I can dig it. The ceramic P/U 5 is probably more what you're looking for, so I'd stay away from the 20th with its alnico, much as I hate to say it! You might want to wait a while until we get more info on the Sterling 5 (might be a long while!); it might be exactly what you're looking for.

thanks for the responses.

think i'm going to give up on the idea of getting a 20th anniv. SR5 at least for now. as much as i'd like a newer HH 5er i really can't get past the un-laquered necks :(

I like lacquered neck also but it is not in option so has anybody tried to lacqer the neck? I like to put some aged look on my neck but not be able to do with newer neck . Any good lacqere brand or maybe just tinted gun oil:confused: If anyone tried with any success let me know:)

Word I once felt that way myself, and now I don't like Laquered necks at all, unfinished necks are so much faster, never gum up in the summer heat.

These gunstock oiled necks are the bomb, they nailed it with doing this. try one and on top of it all a 20th Ann 5 Is one of the best sounding basses I've ever heard, I don't even play a 5 and im gonna buy a few of them. Good luck, Check em out.
These 20th ANN may even be Laquered, i know on the Blue one i Played it was but not sure if they all will come that way. Check with the Boys & Gals @ EB.

thing is, i've owned 3 newer EB's and i've had the exact opposite problem. at gigs, i get some finger funk goin and my thumb starts to catch. it actually hurts my thumb a bit by the end of the night. i'm not a rockstar or anything but i've logged lots and lots of time on both types of neck and i'm "stuck" on the older ones. i currently have a 20th anniv SR and a '91 SR5 with laquered necks and i like 'em lots and lots. i also have 2 '78 "project" rays.
