new to the forum, i am deciding between a 3 tone sunburst fender custom classic strat and a music man silo special in the same finish. I would greatly appreciate and advice from artists who have played both and or just which one to go with.

well sir you are in luck, just 2 days ago i was out and about going to a few guitar shops and i played a new Custom Classic strat, in ice blue. it was a strat, simple, no big deal. Nice axe, but nowhere near the sound and class of a silhouette special. completely different feel to a strat, but 1000 times better sounding, and much more comfortable. much cheaper too i would imagine.

your'e probably not going to find many people here who would say to go with the strat!!!!!

I am not a psychic (although I play one on TV...) however, I suspect I can predict all the responses you're going to get here...:D
The important question(s) is/are:
have YOU played them both? Through an amp? Through YOUR amp?..In a quiet room? Were they both set up decently? Is there a cost consideration?

And finally...

Can you really go on in life without an EBMM?

My Silo Spec sounds more stratty than most F####rs. I've always been a fan of a humbucker in the bridge, so it's super versitile. The neck is the most comfortable one I've ever played.
EBMM's are quality instruments and it's nice to know you can contact the same person every time at the factory if you need them.
Oh yeah, everybody and their friggen' brother has a strat! Stick out from the crowd!!
Wonderful guitars!

I just sold a custom strat yesterday and I'm buying a silo tomorrow. The silo feels, sounds, plays and looks better. Need any more reasons to go with EBMM?

I'm going to leave this alone for a little while (unless it goes south), but listen, it's the Music Man Forum.

1. On the Music Man Forum, 99.9% of the members will recommend you get a Music Man. The other 0.1% will tell you to play both and get what you like best.

2. On the Fender Forum, 99.9% of the members will recommend you get the Strat. The other 0.1% will tell you to play both and get what you like best.

Now the difference is that we are right while they are wrong, but that much should be obvious even to the New User.

I'll play the wildcard here. Get an Albert Lee SSS - it's "what the strat wishes it was" as a wise person here once said. IMHO, it's the most vintage strat-ish sounding of the lot.

I was waiting for someone to post this idea. I was preoccupied earlier.

So my birthday is coming up and the wife has offered to buy me either a weekend at the Playboy mansion, or a crash course in Sky Diving. What do you guys think?

Either option sounds like she doesn't have much use for you! :p

I'd choose the skydiving. When you fall on your face with a parchute on your back it's less bruising to your ego. ;)

Raz,

Unlike Beej I love your avatar! It's funny because it's true:D (I'm joking beej, I love to hate the Leafs:p )

In a way, it's like getting married. You don't just marry the person, you marry the family.

When you buy the Music Man, you don't just get the guitar. You get the support of a company that really cares about your experience with their instruments. Great customer service. A forum like this one. Forum get-togethers like the one we're going to have in Dallas in November. When you buy the Music Man, you don't just get the guitar. You get the whole experience.

You can lead someone to Mensa, but you can not make him think.
