After all these years of playing by ear and struggling, i found a guy in my home town that gives lessons. I have been meaning to do this for about 7 yrs. We are starting Tues. I'm pretty pumped! :D

It will be nice to have an experienced guitarist guide me in my playing!

That's great. I really wish I had the time to do that. All I can manage for now is some time here and there to work on some tunes on my own (the solo in Money is my latest little project) and for the occasional jam with my 40+ rocker friends...

Enjoy the lessons and make the most of them.

I've been strongly considering taking lessons too. Been playing for 20 years and I still suck. Time to do something about it.

I know what you mean. Every time someone asks me how long I've been playing and they hear 15 years, I feel they expect me to sound like Vai. I'm thinking of taking lessons as well, but think it will be harder trying to break all the bad habits that I've learned.

I also started up with lessons after buying the Al and a 20+/- year hiatus. The other problem was that playing by ear was never a gift I had. But hey, mid-life crises are for having fun so I'm plugging along. Found an interesting character to take lessons from. He recorded and toured with, among others Bob Dylan (Hard Rain, Street Legal, At Budokan, Rolling Thunder Review) in the 70's, Robert Gordon/Link Wray in the 80's and he's the bass player on the original American Pie. So I get some interesting stories with the lessons.

I started lessons about 8 months ago, I go once a week for 30 minutes. I have found this to be alot of fun. My teacher says he should be paying me, because most the time we jam. I played in the same band for 13 years and we traveled the southeast doing all the clubs. I haven't played out in a long time and find having someone to jam with enjoyable. He does show me things from time to time, but mainly we just play. I never thought lessons could be so much fun.

I really miss taking lessons and as luck would have it I was able to locate my first guitar teacher and arrange for a once a month 2hr session. The guy is a ridiculous guitarist and molded me in so many ways. I look forward to learning from him again.
