Ahhhhh ...

After trying a Bongo but selling it off. After resisting the siren song as long as possible.

I finally found the EBMM bass that "spoke" to me. And it's in my all-time favorite Stingray finish ...

Copperhead Bronze!!!
(pardon the crappy pic -- I'll take some "glamour shots" later. Trust me, in person, she's beautiful!)

And believe it or not, I found it in a GC. As I understand it, the bass had been in the store for about 3 hours before I got there. I walked in, turned the corner and there she was! I really wasn't planning on buying a bass at GC -- I had just bought a bass earlier in the day -- I was "just looking." (Famous last words)

The problem was, it was bad enough to find this one sitting there. When I played it, it was all over. I knew that if I hadn't bought it, I'd kick myself for time immemorial.

So -- I suppose I'm back in the family, eh?

This is the bass I've been looking for!

how is it a copperhead bronze SR made it into a guitar center in 2006? isn't it a discontinued color?

Congrats, that's one of my fave discontinued finishes. I just let my Copperhead Bronze Stingray go but the CB Sterling will be here forever!

Really nice bass.

I always liked the color/pickguard combination on that one. Seems like there were quite a few in GC before they were discontinued.

Don't ever get rid of the washed copper pickguard though.

Like most of the finishes that fail miserably, I love that color.
Is it the "kiss of death" for a finish if you like it then Jack? :p

Fantastic bass - I would LOVE a Sterling in that finish!

A black pg would look good on that too. But Larry's right, never lose that acid washed pg. They belong together like peas and carrots. :D

Copperhead Bronze is very rare. From what I remember, the finish didn't go into production. There'd only be a handfull of them.

Weren't they NAMM Show Basses!!???

I don't know if they were NAMM Basses or not, but it seems like everytime I saw that someone had purchased a new one, it came from GC. I think it might have been a finish that only GC had. I know I saw three in the GC here in Dallas when they were new. SR, SR5 and a Sterling were all in stock at one time. I also remember someone else posting a pic from a GC that had 2 or 3 in the pic.

HERE'S A THREAD ON COPPER BRONZE

Dereks comment:

"The pickguard combination with Copperhead Bronze Finish was shown at the 2004 winter Namm show. We had a few prototypes with the copper finish and the pickguard you have but decided not to offer the combination. Lucky You. We may have sold those few "Namm" basses to Guitar Center as a special purchase. I have a SR4 sitting in my office right next to me in that same combination as yours.

Thanks

Derek"

EXACTLY. To me, the PG is what makes the color work. It's probably my recalcitrant nature but I sincerely love owning a bass that is a little "off the beaten path" and if this one had been one of the more common finishes, I might have passed it by, thinking "Oh - a Stingray -- I can get one any time."

When I saw this particular bass, there was no way I could not buy it. I'd have been saying "woulda, coulda, shoulda" for the rest of my life!
