Late in the ball game, I know, but I finally got to play a JPX (I had to drive 3 hours to do it).
First impressions:
The color is really incredible. The pictures don't really do it justice (cliche, but true). I wasn't a fan based on the pictures I had seen, but I am a believer now. I brought along my JP6 to A/B it. I really do prefer the larger frets, and the painted neck was not an issue like I had feared (although the neck on my JP6 is the most incredible feeling maple I have ever laid my untalented hands on). I still prefer the unfinished necks, but I could "live" with the painted neck on the JPX
The ebony board is incredible, and overall the neck profile is spot on. I felt the tone was warmer, and the single note highs cut much better (which is exactly what I'm looking for).
The body looks cool, but is not as comfortable as the JP6. I love that the piezo switch is located a little higher - it is not in the way during tapping licks. I still knock into the pickup selector during strumming, however.
Well, it looks like I'll be selling some crap soon...damn EBMM
