So I took an hour journey from Manhattan to Long Siland to check out all the different models. I basically got to try the great majority, but unfortunatly not the Y2D since it was on hold, and no Petruccis.

1) Steve Morse model- He of course is my musical God, and such reflects this unbelievable instrument. I'm suprised that you cant time travel with this thing. Every single position of the switches and knobs was amazing, and it was also VERY comfortable even without the body contours. This is 10000000% on my list. And I am definatly sure that the Y2D is also amazing. It looked so perfect just looking at it.

2) Axis- Very nice and dark sounding with great pick ups, and was also very comfortable for me to play. HOWEVER, this one does not do it for me due to the locking tremolo, and also it has no tone pot, which of course I percoanlly use all the time. Another thing is the switch that moves parallel with the fret board. I almost tore it off trying to switch it up and down the tilted way, but I guess that's something that I could get used to. This model will not be on my future list due to the locking tremolo, and no tone pot.

3) ASS- Tonally basically the same as above Axis (with humbuckers of course), which is very good. I love the sound of it, and this model I preffer MUCH more to the Axis. I like the 5 way pup selector with some nice tones, and of course the big plus over the Axis is the tone pot. Also I like the availibility of the MM vintage tremolo which I love, or hardtail and choosing the fretboard and piezo and ALL that stuff. The ASS is definatly on my list for future, but the parallel switch and knobs will take some time for me to get used to.

4) Albert Lee- Well, this one is just COMPLETELY not me whatsoever. There is probably gonna be a lynch mob coming after me after this one. I am not saying it is a bad instrument at all tho, and I am pretty sure it is actually much better than a strat. However the single coil sound just did not please my ears, and the shape was not comfortable for me also. Another thing is that this one was TOO light. Might sound funny, but I dont like certain things that are TOO light. It definatly was made very well for specific players that can play very well with this kind of guitar, but I am not gonna own it along with the Axis.

5) Silhouette- Well of course I have this one which is my first, and I love it to death. I had to do a little moding to my liking, but from the beginning it was very unique and beautiful and comfortable and versetile. I will most likely going to get me some more of these in the future. Maybe I will also get a Silo Special, but maybe not since the Luke can probably do good enough with the H-S-S config.

6) Luke- This one is another AWESOME geetar which I am waiting for currently. My second Ball and it is very nice and versetile with the V neck, and nice slight body contours. On this one I actually love the H-S-S configuration, and also the EMG pups make it very distinct. Love the MM vintage tremolo of course, and the volume and tone pots are incredibly useful that make this thing a tone monster.

So that's my opinions on all the models I have tried so far, and the Petrucci I want to try next. I am pretty sure that I will like that one. However I must confess that initially I never liked the deep arm contour on the body. I DID hold a Pet long time ago, and it felt weird. Must try it again of course. Benji one I will not get because of that ugly green (sorry) and overall the whole thing and the guy himself. And I dont think I will really need the S.U.B because it doesnt really have much on the others that I like. Thank you for letting me share my thoughts, and I hope no one wants to kill me. And if you do, than so be it.

Of course, I felt like I had to since yesturday coming back home on the train. Also because I have never played most of them before. The other thing I forgot was that the 20th Anniversary Silo MUST be amazing. I really want that one without even trying it. But anybody know for how long it's going to be available for?

The switch is not a problem at all!
I prefer up-n-down switch too so I just turned the switch to that way!

If you still want to try the Y2D there is a tobacco burst at Rockland Music in Nanuet NY, about 20 minutes north of the GW Bridge up the Palisades to exit 8W. Check the dealer locator for exact address and phone #. they usually have a pet in stock as well. I bought my original AL through them.

Great reviews, sorry you didn't like the AL, you should try one with the MM90's in it I have a feeling that you might like it more than the single coil model.

Your a lucky man most people don't get the chance to try almost all of the EBMM models out in 1 day at just one place, unless you went to the Open House :D.

The 20th is limited time, but I haven't heard anything about the time frame, I'd guess 3 to 6 months tops, but that's a guess on my part. Hopefully someone can layout the time frame for all.

I beleive Pete Dubaldo's site has the 20th's available on about the 6th of April, but I could be wrong. Good luck with your purchasing decisions.

That's the place. The only place I can actually try out MM guitars in NYC.

He had a Y2D a few weeks ago. I played it the morning it got to his store. I would have bought it but it had and imperfection in the clear coat and deep scratches in the neck. Small and hard to see but I noticed them.

Nice review:)

I just wished there would be a store like that close to Holland..the store who had the most EBMMs (and they call themselves 'the biggest guitarstore in Europe) had 4 EBMMs in stock, a Morse (signed, they were asking a rediculous price), Y2D and two SUBs...I still haven't seen an AL, a JP7 and an axis in the flesh:eek:

I'm really thinking of moving to the US:D

Thanks for the review. :)

By "dark", do you mean that it doesn't sound "trebly"? Sorry, I can't think of a way to describe this.

Cud, I think he still had the same one (Y2D), but I could not really see it as well, since someone had it on hold. I couldnt eve hold it in my hands to feel it or see it in more detail, but whatever. The guy also had to take the guitar down himself from the wall and handed it to me. Not sure exactly why I couldnt do it. I guess he doesnt trust new and young faces?

Eilif, that is basically what I meant. After all it is Basswood with maple top, and more wood also, so naturally I think the guitar is supposed to sound more BASSY like. Overall a well balanced guitar tho the ASS is, and I like it a lot :) .
