Hello everyone,

I finally decided to sign up to the forums and see what goes around on here. I've been interested in the Musicman Stingray basses for quite sometime now. So yesterday I got to try out the Stingray 5, (they had no stingray 4's sadly:( ), but the tone on the Stingray 5 was great and Im probably thinking of buying a "Stingray 4, Black Cherry Burst, maple fretboard and matching headstock, and black pickguard" sometime this year.

so...is it definatley worth it even though its kind of a hefty price tag?

Thanks!

Welcome, Ginnagan!

I'm not sure what the going retail rate for a new Stingray is in Canada, but I can tell you that they are well-worth the money in the States, especially when you consider the materials, craftsmanship, finish, customer service, warranty, and God-knows-what-else comes with the price tag.

As I've said before (somewhere), these are about the best tools of the trade, and are definitely player's basses...that just happen to look great!

the stingrays are awesome basses.

The Stingray 4 and 5 is different tho. I'd guess (have heard) that tonally the SR5 is closer to the Sterling than the SR4 is. Maybe someone with SR5, Stingray 4 & Sterling experience can chime in here (Randy, Figgy, Jack??) with more info.

The Stingray 4 and Stingray 5 are definitely different animals. Like Phatty said, the tone of the Sterling(while a little more agressive ) is more like a Stingray 5 than a Stingray 4 is. I would try all three of them before I decided on one. You're going to get a great tone out of any EBMM bass so I would with the one that feels right to you.

It's definitely worth it. It's an American made instrument of high quality made by employees who are paid a decent wage by a responsible company.

And it sounds BADASS!!! :D

Hi,

I live in Canada and bought a Stingray 4 last March. Yes, they are expensive basses but man they play well and feel great, and the Tone is simply awesome !!!!

I am Ricken***ker fanatic and the MusicMan is another beast totally that I truly enjoy as much !!!!

L and M in Canada have a great stock of Music Man basses so go for it !!!!;)

the Stingray 4 is an icon..its sexy, its phat, its rock n roll, its funk, its meat and potatos, its delicious, its beautiful, its your affair the wife knows about and its probably been a part of most players lives here much longer than they care to remember.....and theres one near you:)

the chaps here are right tho.be sure and try the other MM basses.something will stike an empathy chord with you. remember - style points for going sterling,BP brownie points for bongo buying, but the kudos go with Ray 4 ownership;)
