Hi Everyone, I'm finally able to join the club.

I've been looking for a white, maple neck, HSS Silhouette special for a year and finally found one.

It'll be here on Thurs !!

I have a question .... how good are the pickups ?
I understand they're Dimarzio and I've never tried any from them.

I only played a silhouette acoustically, and that was enough to sell me a year ago, but couldn't plug it in.
:D

Hey...

Congrats on finding exactly what you were chasing... A year  I commend your patience !!

It's a great axe, it wont disapoint you.

Pups are great... nice and versatile, heaps of tones/variety...

Anyhow...On the off chance you don't like them, i'm sure the boys around here can recommend suitable replacements..

Enjoy.. & once again, welcome.

It may depend on the build date of the SS

All the SS pups are listed as custom wound Dimarzio's. The singles are most closely related (or OEM versions) of their Blue Velvets and the bucker, most recently, a version of the Virtual PAF. Since Dimarzio has discontinued the Virtual PAF this year (and there seems to be at least 2 new pups indicated as replacements the PAF Bridge and the 36th Anni. PAF) there has been no official word as to what is in the SS bridge now, and I don't no that there will be since the official description still says custom wound. Either way, they are set up for a vintage sound and are not modern/hot pickups.

Edit

Looks like the Dimarzio Blue Velvets were also discontinued this year, replaced by the True Velvets. So as to whats in the new Silo specs...I don't know

Thank you
Would you say the singles are low output ?

The Humbucker and middle aren't the concern but I do a lot of Pink Floyd and I need a neck pickup with a medium/ high output.

Thanks for taking time to tell me.

Single coils are a little punchier than a USA Strat in my opinion, so not low output. Don't know what Pink Floyd sound like so can't help there, but I think they play Strats so you should be OK

Wolf,

Great guitar - one of my favorites because the "action and feel" are so nice.

That Dimarzio pickup will be "fine" for Floyd, in fact it will enhance that sound.

Besides, pickups are the easy part, you can always change out pickups (it's the guitar that's critical), and you got it!!

Congrats on a fine guitar, you will be OK with the PUPs, especially for Pink Floyd, now off topic any one else here never heard a Pink Floyd song?;)

Yep, I'll agree with Keith, you'll get a great Gilmour sound from the neck pickups. To be honest, most of DG's sound comes from the way that he plays and phrases things anyway, plus the amount of effects that he uses ;)

Not sure if there is anyone in the western world that hasn't heard at least one PF song.

Guys, My Silhouette's arrived.

Not bad, needs a fret dress though, as it's fretting out at the top.

Not impressed with that but I saved so much on the price, I'm happy to have that done.

I'm also disappoined with the single coils, so gonna change the neck only, as I rarely use the middle alone.

Not too sure about the Humbucker yet, but I'm gonna gig it tonight and see how I get on.
I'll raise the action to get rid of the Fret Buzz just for tonight.

Has anyone changed their pickups ?? If , for what ??

PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I changed my pickups to Fender Custom Shop 69s... My fav set... But mine is an SSS Silo Spec. Same colour as yours, but RW board...

Instead of a fret dress, why not try tweaking the truss rod first? I do that, and it gets rid of the problems... It could well be a relief issue...

Are the OEM pickups soldered in the usual way ?

I read somewhere that clips are used instead of solder.

Is this true ?

haven't taken it apart to look yet, setting it up for 10's ready for tonight
