I've read that the back neck of my MM EVH is oiled and waxed but is the fingerboard oiled and waxed as well or does it get another finishing ?
Does this apply only to mapple fingerboard or rosewood as well (like the Luke) ?

The maple fret board will have the same oil/wax as the back
Rosewood will have no wax/oil on the fret board but it will on the back of the neck.

Hope this helps.

Oh yeah...it rocks well. Had a session last monday with it. It performed fantastically and easily kept up with a loud drummer and a large bass rig...not bad for a 20 watt amp! We played everything from Chuck Berry to Metallica and it coped really well...

Sorry no offence, I'm a newbie here and don't know who are the "big" guys (althought I might be fooled by "Music Man Repair Dept" or "Ernie Ball Customer Service" signatures...).
More seriously, the reason is that some "luthier" told me that EBMM stopped oiling fingerboards because of problems. If I had a response from EBMM staff I could defintively proof he's wrong.

Big is the same thing as wide right?
Like Popa Chubby size ? Can someone behind you still see the guitar when you're playing ?

And no I'm not still sore, I forgot it was you, otherwise I would have written:
"Can someone other than this fool confirm this ?" :D

I didnt realise Popa Chubby was "famous". I saw him play at an open mic night in NYC back in '96 during my first ever night in the US. I had signed up to join in on guitar thinking it was going to be like the english pub 12 barre blues kind of thing...I was not ready for the musicianship standard in that club and ended up losing my bottle and getting out just in time ;)

Nowadays I'd give it a go! ;)

So, to make this more "official", your entire neck was dipped into a vat of oil and wax upon completion at the EBMM factory. Then it was attached to your guitar's body. That's pretty much what Lew said, just not as elaborate as my explanation. :)

If it has a rosewood fingerboard, which in the EVH's case, it does not, then only the maple neck itself, sans fretboard, would be waxed and oiled. I'm not sure the exact process that EBMM does in these situations, but overall that's the standard practice.

There you go... :)

A follow up - should you do anything to protect the frets first, or just be sure to wipe it off well? I'm gearing up for my first waxing... wait, that doesn't sound right... :)

...just keep that private, Dave. :p

I used to take a q-tip with rubbing alcohol on it and go over the frets themselves to remove any residue after the oil and waxing, etc. -- then I realized that it was anal, unnecessary, and complete overkill. So I just oil, wax, attach, play now...

Lew,

I really like the clean sound because of its warmth - everything on the hurricane is warm and dark. Definately not sparkley (ala fend@r) but still a really decent clean sound. Plus the reverb on the hurricane is really nice which you dont get on the harlequin.

Lew seriously come over to Oxford early in the new year and have a good long blast on my amp with your (or my) guitars. I know Dodgeball would be up for a get together too. Plus Oxford has loads of places to go out if you want to make a day of it. Drop me an email to : spkirby AT btopenworld DOT com

The Guitar Gallery only have a hellcat in stock at the moment but normally do have the full range. For expensive amps they dont sit in the shop long though... ;)
