I was looking at the Buttercream order thread and noticed the rosewood board basses are disappearing faster than the maple.

It made me wonder what the more popular fingerboard wood is, both from the folks here but also what the factory sells more of.

I have a maple stingray that I picked up used that I think sounds fantastic. However I have never really had a chance to A/B it with a rosewood board.

I didnt vote.

I love the maple board on my SR5, and I love the rosewood board on my Bongo. So really, Im not very picky about fretboard wood. Maybe some can hear a huge difference, but I dont hear enough difference to be picky.

To me some finishes look better with rosewood, some with maple. I have both, and my favorate SR is a rosewood board model. I always tell myself I like maple better... who knows :)

Depending on the bass, I usually prefer Rosewood.

Sometimes, Maple is the call...

...hell, I'm a douchebag for waffling!

i cant hear a difference ... honestlyt though, i dont think ive ever listened for a difference either.

my decision is based upon the following.

1) which on looks better w/ the finish
2) which one is in stock

pretty superficial answer

Sorry about that, I did actually think about adding pau ferro to the poll but figured that it wouldn't amount to a big percentage. When did they use ebony for fretless?

Someone else will have to chime in with the official history. Pre EB fretli were ebony methinks. I'd imagine that the early EBs were as well.

I voted rosewood because the Buttercreme looks better with it - IMHO. I also like maple, so my overall opinion is - it depends.

Picture a trans-orange Sterling with matching headstock - it just screams maple. Buttercreme on the other hand is rosewood all the way......

I voted rosewood, because i like the slightly darker tone it gives, i don't like my basses to be too snappy, and that's what the maple accentuates.

I do prefer maple on 6 string guitars though, it feels better and i like the brighter sound.

but overall, rosewood gives me the sound and feel i desire..

i just realized i don't have any ebmm's in the house...
