Yeah
1- I used the search and haven't found that kind topic ( I'm sure midopa will find me something , but I could also use some Fresh thoughts :p)
2- I know finger attrack more chicks

but .. I've played for a while with a pick , and now I'm into plucking .. and Every guitar players .. tho I wonder why I care about them, said that " man you play bass with a pick , you suck!" and I was wondering is playing with a pick is THAT loser. There are some songs that I play with that sound whole lot different that if I use my fingers. By Different I don't mean just the tone ... but it's a just an other feel, an other I can't tell but it's just something else.

The pick has that in between poping and plucking sound, and I gives a " attack " sound to the notes. ( Okai do we say Key or Note ???? )

while the fingers give a smoother sound ( okai yeah I know you can give a lot of attacking sound depending on what pressure .. ) and "fluid" sound . Plus you feel the bass way more ..

Okay maybe what I said is tottally stupid ... but eh ..

Bruce Foxton
Tony Butler
John Taylor

All pick players

I don't think it matters, but it may be better if you can do both.

Picks, In my own misguided opinion, are really cool for slower parts that require clarity or if one is into using cool effects. I probably only use them about 3% of the time though. But like everything, there are exceptions. I'm sure ther are some pick players that would blow many of the finger enthusiasts out of the water. But for me it's just an agility issue. I'm not able to change strings with the same type of flow as using the finger technique. I don't hate picks because it's the "in" thing to say. I think they serve a purpose and anyone who is very good at using it, should use it. ( Doesn't apply to string riders ) or those pickers that pretend that their bass only has 3 notes on it...I hate that.

i use a pick and play finger. just depends. i like my pick better because it has a shaper attack, and clarity. and im a clarity freak. and it goes very well with my desired tone. and there are alot of finger style players who bash pick players, but in the end it comes down to what sounds good to you. after all it is your interpretaion of the song, right?

I've tried off and on to get the hang of using a pick. I've never been able to make it work. Maybe if I had played bass left handed I would be able to do it. I just don't seem to be able to use a pick with my right hand. I'm sure not going to switch to left handed after playing right handed for 25 years though.

I'm with you on that one , especilly for the sound part and some fast strumming. or I don't know you you ever have listen to Less Than Jake , but all the Variations that Roger does .. okai I can do them finger style , but with the pick there's a something more I can't explain .. Guess I'll do lil like Matt Wong or J.P.Jones by using Finger and Pick ( and some taping/poping )
