Hello,

I really felt like giving it a shot and swapping the pickups in my Axis Super Sport myself, but it didn't really turned out as expected!

I have followed te schematics, and everything looks right, however, this was the result:

Position one (the neck-most position): BOTH pickups were fully activated
Position two: Inner neck coil only
Position three: Both pickups fully activated
Position four: Outer neck coil only
Position five: DEAD QUIET

It seems like the neck pickup functions as it should, but why is the bridge pickup dead quiet in all positions except one and three? Most of all, why is it active when the neck pickup is supposed to be active alone?

I hope someone more experienced can shed some light on this. I'm trying out the Dimarzio 36th Anniversary PAF pickups, so the color codes and everything should be the same, shouldn't they?

Thanks in advance,
Sebastian

EB schematics have position 1 being the bridge pickup. Are you using the correct side of the 5-way switch? Meaning, are you using the same solder pads that were used before? Swapping 1 pickup at a time is the easiest way to goof-proof it.

Yes, it's identical to how it was before. I just accidently reversed the numbers in my post.

Hello Sebastian

Perhaps should you post some pictures. The electronic gurus (beej, spudmurphy, ...) will surely find what's wrong.

It's hard to tell from the pics. Off-hand, it looks like you've wired up the p'up side of the switch ok, though there could be connections between the lugs that I can't see.

On the splitting side (where the green/violet leads go), it doesn't look right, but again I can't really see what's going on.

Btw, Pete is right- the way EBMM labels it, #1 is bridge only, #5 is neck only.

Debugging this stuff is tricky, but it's not rocket science. Do you have a good multimeter? Check every wire to make sure it's in the right place, then use the multimeter in continuity mode (where it beeps) and check all the connections. E.g., put the switch in position 1 and find out all the places that that lug is connected to- you'll quickly figure out what's wired where. If you know what to expect in each position, doing this will help you figure out what you've actually done. Usually it's something small, a jumper wire in the wrong place, etc.

Good luck! There's no substitute for just having done this a few times, just stay at it. Worst case you can get somebody local to help you out.

oh no - I'm no electronics guru :eek::eek::eek: - I use Beej when I have a query.
I'll rewire your house(electrics) but don't ask me about guitar electrics (electronics). The most I have done is to rebuild a piezo but just replaced like with like.
