Took the Lime Green Bongo out for its first show last night (what a cheap date... didn't even have to buy it dinner). What can I say, other than it was an experience. It is the first time in about 10 years that I have played a bass with exposed pole pups (not since I broke my old SR). That took a bit of adapting to. I also noticed that the tone was extremely responive to where I was playing (between the bridge and 24th fret). Normally there are only a few tone "hot spots" but on the Bongo if you moved your fingers a centimeter in any direction the tone shifted a bit - has to be a by product of the 18 volt system picking up subtle changes.
Tonaly, it took some more adjusting too. I have not used it before with my Gig Rig... just my practice rig at low levels. The sonics took some adapting. Normally I play through an SWR Silverado Special with a Bass Pod XT in the effects loop... why not it sounds great with my Warwick Streamer ProM. But the Bass Pod didn't like my Bongo. The tone coming through was too harsh. So I pulled the Pod out of the loop, and played the Bongo with just the SWR. You know an amazing thing happened... the dry Bongo sounded better than the dry or looped Warwick. It was nice and tight. And the 3 band EQ worked wonders (much more responsive that Warwicks MEC tone controls - I can't wait for my 5 string with the 4 bander in it).
As for the Bass Pod... I have some thoughts on it and I will let you all know what I come up with when I get some time to do some tinkering.
Last, the Lime Green color was a hit (well, you either love it or hate it). All I can say is the photos don't do it justice and it turns some really cool colors under different lights.
