As always looking around for EBMM's and come across this guy selling a RARE black Al ...and he says and i quote....."This guitar has the same neck as Eric Clapton's 'blackie' guitar. Ernie Ball, did a 3d Cad/Cam on Eric Claptons 'blackie' guitar neck and then recreated it and put it on the Albert Lee model. The neck is the ultimate and so incredibly comfortable, that your playing becomes much better. Every nuiance of Eric Claptons neck is captured in the Albert Lee, perfectly broken in after many decades of use."

any truth to this ...i just needed to ask....Thanx in advance.

his nickname reminds me of the first time i visited usa. coming from a remote part of the world, where salespeople in stores everywhere could be trusted and fake goods were unheard of i ended up buying a camera down by the beach... boy that was a waste of money :)

now, im not saying this guitar is, but ill wait till i see more evidence before making the final judgement ;)

This AL was posted in the ebay thread as well, i contacted the seller about his claims, like black being rare etc. no response.

Never heard sth. like that

I believe the Clapton Custom Shop models do have a V-shaped neck. Which neckshape did the Original "Blackie" have? Also a V? The AL does not!

Nevertheless - this AL looks great, and I usually find black guitars boring

I have a vague recollection of reading about the Clapton Strat and the stated reason for the 'V' profile neck was that Clapton asked for it to replicate a neck on an old Martin acoustic he had..

I was asking more about the 3D cad/cam stuff....

Lenny, with 3D digitizers, you can recreate any neck shape. I'm not saying that EBMM did this, I'm not in the know. But the dude could have had it done somewhere and then had a machine shop do the work.

CAD is my life, I love it and live it every day man. :D

lenny - the ebay seller is blowing smoke about EBMM doing this for the AL; however EBMM has done the 3D/CAD duplication of neck shapes twice:

The first time was the old EVH Signature in the early 1990s; although they made some changes (widened the heel about 1/16") after he left as an endorser that neck shape lives on for the Axis models.

The second time was 5-6 years ago for Steve Morse - when they were putting together prototypes for the Morse Y2D model they digitized the now well-worn neck from Steve's original Morse Signature #1. Once that neck shape was finalized EBMM also started using it on the regular Morse Signature, so all SM Signature models (regular and Y2D) have that neck shape.

It's funny, that story has been out there for a long time. I've heard it before. Maybe the seller did and just assumes that it's true.
