I went from Wals to Stingrays to Bongos, and never looked back.
but sometimes I still miss Petes craftsmanship and seeing Ian Wallers signature on the back of the preamp cover in pencil.

Congrats:

Bongo 5 HHp fretless
bongo 5 H/SC fretted
SR5 frettled

Bongo 5 fretted
H/H with piezo
graphite pearl w/ black ice 'guard

There are several nice Bongos in the local shops and I could have brought one home, but the piezo was an absolute requirement for me. I suspect that the piezo will be the icing on an already-versatile HH mix.
Welcome to the tiny ranks of the few, the proud, the totally optioned-out. I too am soon (not soon enough) to become the owner of a B5HHP (would that be prounounced "bfphffffp?"). There aren't many of these around as far as I can tell; not many fretted buyers go for the piezo. I went the opposite route, color-wise...I wanted it loud, so I got Desert Gold with a tort guard.

I wanted the piezo for the same reason you did. I have some small experience with piezos, since my fretless has one...and I like what it does. I could have saved a LOT of money had I just bought an HH, but life's too short and I would have been left wondering. I can always turn it off.

My original thinking, given the current situation with Wal, is that my basses are on the fast track to becoming irreplaceable. One in particular is unique. There are a number of venues that I don't enjoy taking them to. The Bongo seemed that it *might* just be the ticket for me... comes pretty close to nailing the Wal tone (plus a lot more), and the consistent build quality means that you don't have to search for a diamond in the rough in the catastrophic event of a loss. I'm certain to reevaluate when the Bongo arrives.

Of course, a LOT of nice folks here have me nearly convinced that the Bongo may actually become my main squeeze. We'll see about that when it arrives, but one thing is certain: I know that I will not be disappointed!

Currently I have a Sterling (black onyx). The drummer I'm working with absolutely loves the tone of it. However, the Sterling just didn't click as one of my personal favourite instruments. It is a fine bass, but perhaps I should have tried a 'Ray first. Anyhow, as I'm playing fivers almost exclusively now the Bongo seems the best choice.

Now, a thanks again to all the nice folks here for the great welcome. There are a lot of familiar faces (hi!) and I am digging it here immensely. I know that I'm gonna be a proud "bfphffffp" owner! Thanks for the heads up on the model nomenclature, adouglas. :)

Cheers,

Andrew

Congrats--I really love the piezos on my HHp 5 string and my SCHp 5 fretless. I really don't like the sounds of piezos with roundwounds, but I prefer the sound of flats, anyway.

The piezos with flatwound strings with some magnetic pickup mixed in is about as perfect a tone as I can imagine.

And, your color choice sounds like it'll be a real beauty, too!

Enjoy it.
