I need some info on buying a EBMM guitar. I have a Stingray 5, but am getting back into playing more guitar, and need a good all-around axe that's well constructed, good tone and excellent playability. I have my sights set on a Steve Morse Y2D. My questions deal largely with with reliability and warranty info. Reason being that I have had a really, really bad experience with G&L last year. Long story short, I had three guitars with bad necks (twisted, broken truss rod, and really poor fret job) Although they refunded my money, I am still out a guitar. My question is, what is the warranty like, how stable are the necks (I know they are essentially unfinished), and how safe is it to buy from a dealer on-line? If I have a warranty issue, will I need to send it back across the county so they can in turn send it back to EB? I know that EBMM are well known for quality, as I can attest to in my stingray, but given my experience, I need to know this information before I make such an investment.

Thanks for your feedback

No worry about getting from your dealer - you are well covered!

For your info, all my Balls dont come from my local dealer. No warranty, BUT, no problem at all! This is the type of quality you can expect from EBMM. ;)

Every company is going to have problems with a guitar from time to time. EB makes great stuff and their service backs it up if you ever have an issue. No worries.

I haven't had to call CS yet, but it would appear that the folks on this forum have very good experiences with CS. The fit and finish on my guitar is superb. I'm very impressed with the quality.

Hi Adam, welcome!

I'm a 3 year convert from G&L. I never had the problems you'd mentioned with them. One finish problem that was dealt with well. Mine were pre-transition guitars, maybe that made a difference, I dunno. Anyway, I had no beef with G&L at all. The reason I switched to Silo Specials is because they took out everything I didn't like about the basic Strat/G&L/Suhr etc, and retained everything I liked about the strat concept. Refined it, if you will.

MM's are things: wood, metal, electronic thingies, and anything can develop a problem. One of my Silo Specials did, early on. The guitar hung on a shop wall for over 4 years, most likely cuz the G nut groove was too deep and buzzed. Rather than sending it back to MM to solve the matter, they let it hang there, molested by who knows how many hackers over the years, subject to sun and dust. I took a chance and bought it, from their store on eBay. It was nice, but it had issues. 5 years after it left the MM shop, it went back in, under full warranty. It took some doing to literally rebuild the guitar. Nearly 5 years of foot traffic is a bit much on a guitar. Keep in mind, I paid a used guitar price for this old feller.... and Music Man is jumpin' through hoops like I was someone special? That's different from anything I was used to from a guitar company. Anyway, I could not be any happier with the guitar or with the company or with their CS.

The models are entirely different from one another, so if one doesn't do it for you, try another. Different neck carvs, radii, woods, electronics, etc. The consistent thing is the quality.

Happy hunting!

Well I just bought a new JP6 in redburst. I felt the neck was super comfortable, which is nice because I have problems with my hands (obtaining a degree in clarinet). I am really, really happy with the quality. I was a bit concerned about the neck being unfinished, and the body looked a little small, but after playing, the whole guitar is perfect. Thanks for the advice, I probably won't be cruising around here very often. No disrespect, but this guitar begs to be played. I feel that I can't wait to practice. I can do things for hours at a time when before, I had to break it it. Besides, I have never seen a guitar put together so well in my life. I had always heard that MusicMan was good, but damn, this is incredible. Gotta go. Thanks again.
