Switched out rounds for flats last week.

You out there that know it, know it.

The rest of you should give it some thought.

It is a kind of magic.

I have a set of Flatwounds on my Classic Stingray 5. I won't be changing it back to roundwounds anytime soon.

I'm very happy with Stage III flats on mine; for whatever reason, I get a stronger smoother midrange with them and a better overall depth.

Flats (group III of course) on the buttercream so she sounds "like buttah."

Originals on the 30th cause she's got to sound original.

What will I put on the (insert next bass that begins with a B here) when I get her?

i had some group 2s on my 3 band ray for a while,i loved playing it at home but in the mix of a punk band it was just a little too much oomph,i love the tone the bass player from Sade gets with his stingray and flats

I bought a pair of Group III EB Flats about a month ago for my Classic SR4, and I can't see myself switching to anything else in the forseeable future. They're so buttery smooth and the tone you get from them is awesome. I can't even really figure out how to describe them accurately; I highly recommend them if anyone is thinking about trying flats.

+1 to this thread - I have group 3 EB flats on my fretless Ray and I couldn't be happier with the sound. It's also v playable as they are about the same tension as roundwounds. I will not be swapping them.

I'm thinking of trying them on my Classic also.

Spoze I should mention that EB Customer Service very
graciously enclosed a set of Slinky Flats in the returned
shipment of my SR5 from a warrantee repair job. That
helps relieve the bite of $75 shipping cost across North
America ! Good Job EBMM.

BTW, they were not trying to convert me to flats, but
simply saw that my ax was "preperly dressed", and so
provided an appropriate back up.

I`ve tried flats on my Bongo4 and on my Sting Ray ...... I`m sorry but I didn`t like them at all. Nothing beats EB Steels on this basses ! At least for the sound I`m looking for.

Got flats on my fretless Ray, debating getting a set for my Big Al, but I'm afraid he'll lose his bite. Anyone else go with flats on their Big Al?

Well I don't have flats on my Stingray (yet), however, I do have flats on my 5 string Bongo (and my P-Bass, and my Beatle Bass, and my Jazz Fretless, and my EUB). I really do love that flat sound.

I tried Group III's on my Ray - but IMHO, they did not let the character come through. I much prefer Hybrid Slinky's on my Ray. I put the Group III's on my P-bass and like them on that bass just fine. I just can't help but feel flats detract from that classic ray tone.
