Flatwounds, any truss rod tips?

Hi all, about to change Bongo 4 HH to EB Group II flats (50-105), any tips on cutting strings to length and subsequent truss rod adjustment? Just have memories of the last time I put 105s on another (cheap) bass, and they pulled the neck like a bow. I'm hoping the Bongo's superior build will handle the new neck relief fine, but any advice appreciated. Cheers

I cut the strings to the length it would take to allow the stings to reach the second tuner away from the nut. So if I am cutting the e string, I cut it long enough to touch the d tuner...hope this makes sense. String them up and take a look at the neck. If adjustment is needed, loosen all the the strings and give the truss rod a quarter turn and tune back up. Just go a quarter turn at a time and you'll be golden in no time!

Might want to check, larger diameter E could damage the nut. When I talked to CS about upping the string gage they suggested enlarging the nut slot. In fact we had a thread recently where this did happen to a member!

I do this too! It works perfectly every time!

Just to say thanks for the advice, flats now on and sounding great. Nut coped fine with the 105 E, I can see how a 110 E would trouble it though. Cheers all!
