hey i was watching some videos of flea on the net and i found one in which he was talking about his stingray bass (back when he used them). He had nothing but praise for them. Does anyone know why he stopped using them if he loves them so much? (as in officially like his modulus basses)

sorry in advance if this video is old or you've all seen it or something.

and here are the other videos of him, all different parts of the same video (all these vids range from 50 seconds to about 3 minutes).

I dunno...just what I've heard. I do take note that he's not playing a Modulus too much anymore either after he got that pink Jazz.

ya, I heard that his FOH soundman wasn't too happy with the J Bass and it not cutting through which kinda has me wondering what he(the soundman) is getting paid for? and if he was hoping to just leave the board set where it's been for the last few tours? anywho, even though the pink does have flats I really do think that with all of the gear out there(like spiking the upper mids a bit and maybe throwing a pinch of dirt[dist.] on it) he'd be able to get it to "cut through"

I think flea playing the fenders just didnt make sense in my book. If he recorded the new album with em, thats fine, but live performances would be a little weird for me. I am hopefully seeing them in october, so we'll see what he is playing. I am just used to Flea rocking the one pickup basses :). Part of the reason I fell in love with black/black is because of his black/black/rosewood sr4.

I imagine the modulus appeal is that they wanted to build it to his specs and NAME it after him. Hard to say no to that.

I have that Flea video and he and River seemed fried through the whole thing. It did however have a lot to do with me buying a SR. I wanted the ultimate slap bass and all signs pointed to EBMM.

Mmm I saw that... then he shows his wall of basses and talks about every single bass BAR the EBMM on his wall...

Sounded great considering it was unplugged - that's one of the big attractions of an MM for me - an electric that kicks butt acoustically as well...

The Flea bass was called the "Sonic Hammer" before it became the "Flea bass" as I recall.

That's what I've heard too, I have a Sonic Hammer and it's certainly similar to a Flea Bass.
