I was watching Rush In Rio today and I noticed something I hadn't seen before. When Alex uses his piezo-equipped guitar, he seems to switch between piezo and magnetics via a footswitch. I realize the JP already has the switch on the guitar, but I'd love to know if this could be done on the floor.

Anyone have any experience with this?

I'm using a stereo cable with two mono jack at the other end going into an Nobels A/B-V box which is controlled by my GT-8 (amp controll). So I'm not only switching between piezo and mags but also changing fx's and simulated amp at once. further advantage: no need for a second amp.

got it! so how does the gt-8 control the nobels? you dont touch the nobels at all, it's just part of the gt-8 settings or something? im not familiar with either piece of equipment, excuse my noobness.

I guess it's controlled by relays. It probably has 2 relays and each relay can be either open or closed. So that makes 4 different conditions:

relay1 relay2

opened opened
opened closed
closed opened
closed closed

These relays are sometimes built into multi fx processors (like GT8) for amp channel switching and they are regularly found in rack amp switchers, but relays can be used to control devices other than amps if they have that option.

I hope this makes sense to you.

Does anyone know of an A/B box that works with a stereo cable?

yeah, try the little lehle.

Enjoy Cool Switching

i just bought one. true bypass and stereo jacks. i use a fully loaded JP and a fully loaded ASS. i bought one to quickly switch guitars between songs. they are a sweet little A/B box and very versatile. ;)

yes, there's an option on the GT-8: you chose amp controll on or off. you can make that setting for every single patch. just as you e.g. chose distortion on or off.
the amp controll option usually is used to switch channels on your amp.

YES!
Go to A/B Box and ABY Box Guitar Foot Pedal Systems For Musicians by Startouch Pedals and order the stereo AB/Y. I worked with Tony and he built me one a few years ago. He added it to his line of pedals. His stuff is built like a tank, and it held up great. Tell him I sent ya!

You can then run a stereo cable out of the JP or use a Y-cable and put the stereo end into the AB/Y. then run one cable to your aguitar amp, another to the PA or acoutic amp. Leave the switch on the guitar in the middle all the time and use your foot to do all the switching.
