Maybe this is a stupid question (I have been known to ask them from time to time) but I know the Reflex preamp has Bongo origins but to me it seems seems much more tame than the Bongo (maybe tame isn't what I am looking for: maybe smaller?!?). Do any of you find this to be the case?

I was A/B-ing the two and small adjustments (of the Bass EQ) on the Bongo made a huge difference and when it was dimed it was almost overpowering. With the 25th (in my case) small movements made a difference but not quite as much and with the EQ dimed it still seemed manageable.

Thoughts???

Went to the EBMM Bass page and looked up the difference on the magnets of the Humbuckers on each bass.

On Reflex page
Pickups:
Standard - Single Humbucking with ceramic magnets;
Optional - Dual Humbucking with ceramic magnets;
Optional - Humbucking/Single coil/Single coil with ceramic magnets (Humbucker) and Neodymium magnets (Single coils)

On Bongo page
Pickups:
Standard - Single Humbucking with Neodymium magnets;
Optional - Dual Humbucking with Neodymium magnets;
Optional - Humbucking/Single coil with Neodymium magnets

I believe that the Neodymium magnets are more powerful than the Ceramic magnets. This is probably the cause of the difference between them (plus the wood/tone block/etc...).

EBMM seems to always design each instrument model to have its own character and unique qualities.

Hope you continue to enjoy both for what they each bring. :)

I think the humbucker position is a very important factor. But I dig that the 25th bridge is so different like Ant stated.
Bomgo's are certainly the big dog power wise though.

Laneline, did you have a Golem moment? Bomgos? maybe that's your new term of endearment. I like it.

Ha ha, yup, probably more of senior moment though." But dude they are like the bomb man" Must be due to the fact I'm currently Bongo-less.

All we really know about the two preamps is that they're both 4-band.

I haven't seen anything at all about the innards. It's always been assumed that since they have the same number of bands, they must be the same circuit.

Until I hear otherwise, I will assume that's not the case. The EBMM Brain Trust is far to subtle and clever to use the same stuff for everything.
