After extensive testing of tremolo and hardtail 20th Anniversary Silhouettes, I found that the hardtail resonated a bit better with the combination of tonewoods found in the guitar. Just wondering what your observations were during the R&D of the 25th Anniversary Guitar regarding this? Was the difference even bigger here with the added chambering? Would you say one would lose a bit of "singing" or body resonance with the trem, or is it pretty much the same as the hardtail version?

Just asking because I really want to order one soon, however just not sure if I ought to go with the hardtail or tremolo option. As I'm not dependant on a tremolo, I do prefer tone over versality here...

Any insight would be greatly appreciated! :)

i would think that a hardtail will always sing better than a guitar with trem.

Thanks for the quick reply BP! (and Foggy :p)

To anyone with some insight on this matter;

Is the difference big enough you'd concider hardtail over tremolo when the resonance and tone is more important to you?

I thought it was. I went with a hardtail on my 20th Silhouette because I knew it would be an LP killer, and I wanted as much resonance as possible. I played the 7 tremolo model 20ths that came through, and they were very very close to the sound of my 20th, if not almost identical. or maybe my ears aren't good enough to pick out the slight difference?

Being that the 25th Anny EBMM incorporates the tone block while also being chambered, I have no reservations about getting a tremolo one for myself.

Do you still have that white JP?

I do actually! :)

I found that it gets lesser and lesser played on these days, though, as I'm drawing more towards the round and narrow Silhouette neck and small comfy body and distancing myself more and more from high gain rock/progressive music that the JP is specifically intended for. It's a fantastic guitar and plays absolutely amazing, but I just think it's not the perfectly right instrument for me anymore. It's still in practically brand new condition (I take too good care of my guitars), and I'm actually coming over to Boston again this late summer. Maybe we could talk about selling it used at your store? Shoot me an email/PM! ;)

Interesting on the hardtail vs. tremolo, though. I'd better just try and test them myself somehow and be sure. On a positive note, the hardtail version is cheaper, after all.

In the aspect of the things I mentioned above, though, I really think the 25th might be something for me. The chambering seems just bulls eye for sweet clean resonant jazz tones, and I really like the thought of a bigger body than the Silhouette. And with the neck being the same, I should feel right at home, plus with the added bonus of the pickup switching covering almost every possible tone.

Do you have any of these coming your way, Pete? (to the store)
