Just beautiful! I have a 25th 4 HH Maple that I love! I also had her bigger sister an HH 5 25th...I play the 25th about 75% of the time and love everything about her. Just got in from recording 4 songs with her in the studio today. Thought I ws going to use my Stingray 4H for one of them but the 25th won over...

Peace,

T

Thanks for your help on this one Colin. I really lost sleep deciding if I would take the plunge on this baby. For all those wanting a tone report, I haven't had good chance to really get my teeth into it. Is having a 20 week old son a good enough excuse for this?
Anyhow, I have had a quick play acoustically and an even quicker play plugged in through headphones via Cubase. This was direct into my interface without a DI, so not ideal testing conditions. Here are the thoughts so far:
As an unplugged side by side comparison to my SR5, the 25th BFR is much more articulate, clear and (insert predictable quote here) resonates like a bell. The low B sounds like a piano and the sustain is ridiculous! My SR5 is no slouch, but the low B certainly doesn't sound as clear acoustically. The new vs old strings could play a small part, but only so much can be put down to that. Either way, weak and thin are not words I would use to describe the sound.
Plugged in, this gorgeous beast is smooth. Must be all that velvet chocolate on the neck. The 4 band EQ takes a bit of getting used to compared to 3 band, but I managed to find a setting to get me close to signature Stingray growl territory. The monster truck setting could also be a new favourate for me. Previously, I've only been used to the Single Hum on SR5's. Overall, I gather that it is definitely a more "polite" sound than my SR5. However, this sound could be a much better mix for my acoustic gigs.
Visually, the top is jaw dropping. Utterly mesmerising! In my experience, photos on a computer don't do any flame or quilt top justice, so you can imagine how this baby looks in person. :D
There will be some time over the coming week when my wife and son will be away visiting her parents for a few days. I'll have more of a chance to give test out more thoroughly and report any other findings.
Cheers

What a beast! :)

Fantastic looking bass, I bet it sounds killer!

It's similar model like mine incoming reflex HH maple fb, but this 25th contains more fancy woods and finish, so it must take advantage in sound too!

a twenty week old??? All the more reason to play your new found love...My experience has been (I have five kids!) that they are easily lulled to sleep by the dulcet tones of a bass guitar played quietly next to their crib...must have something to do with the lower frequencies. Play on, my good man! :D

By the way...very nice guitar! A real keeper.

Congratulations, to Colin's 10k post, as well as to Smokey's purchase. What an awesome 25th!!!

I'll always wonder what difference in tone that full rosewood neck makes...

Give the wee one a little Continuum crib side...that should do the trick.

If it sounds half as pretty as it looks they will sleep endlessly.

Great score man. Congrats on the bass!! That neck looks amazing!
