Yessir, it does look very nice indeed.

In fact, of all the basses I've ever owned, this is the first one that made me think, if only momentarily, "This is too pretty to gig with." It is a beautiful piece of work.

It sounds monstrous. The alnico sounds great and I suspect the mahogany tone block kicks that pickup right in the ass. The only thing I did before playing it all night was a slight tweak of the truss and it adjusted perfectly.

The top is magnificent. That's easy enough to see in the photos, and I'll get some high res shots this week. The fingerboard is out of this world, too. It looks like a nice piece of quartersawn Brazilian rosewood. I wouldn't swear that it is - I'm not wood expert - but a luthier friend of mine says, "If it isn't, I want to know what it IS."

I hadn't noticed before that the neck heel is rounded like the Bongo/Sterling. I set it on a stand next to the Dargie SR5 and walked around behind them, just looking at the body shape, and I said, "Hey!" I just hadn't seen it before.

It's funny, Sterling - you know CR comes over quite a bit and he was over this morning to pick up some stuff I'm helping him with. Of course, I have to sit him down with the 20th! How not?

And his reaction was even better than when he tried the Dargie SR5 HH. He really loves these basses. He's got all these deals going with Stuart Spector and Lakland; he's been unhappy in small, bothersome ways with every bass he's had over the last few years, and while he's glad that Stuart and Dan are taking care of him, he still - I think - prefers MY basses.

You know me and you know him well enough to realize that I'm not ever going to get involved in that particular area of CR's life, but I just thought you should know that your Stingray 5, in the hands of a guy who's been around and done some pretty amazing work, is what really floats his boat. If he sees that Bongo 6, I'm afraid it's over!

Anyway, just thought that was cool.

This is the best bass I've ever touched. Thanks again to you, to Scotty, to VonThomas, to Dudley, to all the guys who made this wonderful instrument - and to Pete Dubaldo.

Now, that's a meaningful review.:D
