I do? Have it working, i mean?

Well, if it's true, i should be replying to Jack- yes? Dunno who the dude under the hat is, but the guy on the right looks oddly familiar. It's been a long time, but I thought, well, there's Steve, but then again, I could be wrong.....after all, I think to myself, much of '74-'78 is like a dream. So, help me out, ok. You do know Steve, yes? Is he still with Toto or are they kaput? Love talking about Carl. Now there's a good memory. He treated me with a kind respect; being the only Hawaiian in a troupe full of Okies made it a little hard to fit in sometimes. But when the old man was lifting me up, well then everyone followed suit. I loved his quiet reserve too, until he really felt something special. Then he was a bellower. His enthusiasm was infectious- so when he and Eric were lit, whew, everything was effortless. I was just listening to "I'm Coming Home", and specifically Carl's part. What makes that song feel like it's 'rolling' along? Like a cauldron of cool, slow boiling oil...you know? I was thinking of doing it at the next Diamond Head Crater festival this coming May. Anyway, maybe not, if i can't get that feel. Ok. Jeez. I gotta get some stuff done. Thanks for making my morning interesting, and reflective. Talk to you again, hopefully; til then... safe travels...Y.

Heya Y,

That guy in the hat is Steve Lukather - that was November, at my birthday party, which turned into quite a little hoedown thanks to Company Overlord Sterling Ball. (That's his son Scott on the far right, looking very handsome and normal compared to the rest of the animals in that photo.)

I'm second from left in the guayabara shirt, and clearly getting older.

Luke is still going strong and still has his day job (Toto). He also shows up here occasionally but is in the middle of recording a solo album.

Good to hear the stories about Carl Radle. He was an early player of these here instruments (Music Man) and someone from the company brought him up and we all went on an internet spree, looking for photos and information and mostly coming up short.

Do come back!

Jack

A big mahalo

Geez! The vultures pounced, eh? :D No, sorry, not Zito. Though he was very kind when I met him. And not British either :) Russian heritage actually. The name Darling is an Ellis Island name. Don't know Kevin. No, I'm just a lowly bass player/cartographer. But I've been a fan of yours since the JCS days. Liked the "Love Me" album the best. And that track in particular. Anything written by Barry, Robin, and Maurice is fine by me! I'm gonna trot on over to your website and see what's for sale! :D

All the best,

Ritchie
Dear Ritchie- many thanks for doing what you did. Wow. I'm seriously stoked. I've never experienced that kind of spontaneous purchasing action before. I'm a little concerned about how you'll like it though, since "Love Me" was a favorite of yours. Since then I've had a lot of time to gather knowledge and take up causes, you know, so all of the EP is self penned, and a trifle self indulgent. I was proud of some work, like a child, cuz I had total control of what went down. Like in the first track, "Slippery Slide", I played the slide intro and then the solo. It was liberating! Writing about big wigs that take a fall ( Martha, Enron ) and how the school system sucks...yea, songs that scold. "Simple Needs"- the ballad. A way to live that would be the wisest of choices. If only we could. Thank you, again, for giving my stuff a chance. All I ask is that you read the lyrics as you listen, ( with headphones, preferably ), and if you got the autographed one ( unmastered, no lyrics), let me know... I'll get the lyrics to you somehow. I actually like the unmastered one; more dynamics. About the Bee Gee's- I like their songs too. Barry's brilliant. Although as friends go, Maurice and Andy were the real deals. Talk to you anon Ritchie. Til then, keep feeding that spontaneous spirit of yours! xo Y.

I'm sure it will be very enjoyable! I like "Love Me" the best, but I liked the others as well. :) I did order the autographed version. Had to have that! I will be sure to listen with phones! I have all the others on vinyl! I agree with you about Maurice. I never met Andy. But Maurice was always very nice. I met him on several occasions. And he always remembered my name! :D He was quite possibly my favorite musician of all time. After all these years of collecting music and music related merchandise, I only have three pictures hanging on my music room wall. The Beatles, Roy Orbison, and Maurice! Robin has always been very cordial as well.

All the best,

Ritchie

I guess i faux pa'd, eh? Shoots, I never would have guessed that was Steve...not that he looks bad, not at all. Just different. I feel a bit better that I chose his son and it makes sense since all I have of Steve is the photo in my mind from days gone by. If only there was a way for photos in the mind to gracefully age right along with the owners of the image- then we wouldn't be so shocked when bumping into old friends! I don't know if you're looking older, cuz I don't know you from before, do I? Jack. Jack. Hmmm. The only Jack I knew was Jack who owned ShowCo. As far as I can see, you're still a young 'un! Thanks for the invite. I'll definately try. xo Y.
p.s. say hi to Steve when you see him next . Thanks!

Ok, you need to bring the rest of us up to speed, Jack. Who is the cool talking lady, Yvonne? I did enjoy your description of Luke in the hat, hysterical..............I think if he had a rope he would end up tangled in it.

Good ol' Willy- loved the man!

Hi, Yvonne here. Thanks, Mark, for the quick reference for those interested. I thought I was in 'Big Boppa's' quarters...? As you can see, I fail miserably at this. Nevertheless, I had to write and raise my hand. Yes. Willy Spears was a good friend and invaluable when we hit the stage. He was mainly Eric's guitar man, ( well, he also made sure Eric's 'hackie' spittoon was empty and correctly situated! ), but he looked after the rest of us as well. if only he could've played kick ass guitar liked he seemed to want to. He sure had the look down. Who are you, er, Mr. Boppa? Did you know Womble? xo

Ah! Now I'm in the right place

Yvonne welcome....I was around in your days....Albert Lee checks in here too and do you remember willy spears?

Just a quick correction... Big Poppa! Please forgive. I did write you back, but I was in Aussie Mark's flat! Perhaps you could visit him and read my response?! I'm an idiot at this, lacking all the cool and lingo and speed. It's an unfixable flaw. Ta, luv. Y.E.

Oh Heavenly Heavens. Finally a vision of that lovely voice that got me through Jr. High and Highschool in the 70s. Thank you Yvonne. Gonna do some walkin down memory lane.

A little late to the party, but "Jesus Christ, Superstar" has always been one of my favorites. "I Don't Know How to Love Him" is one of my all time favorites. What a pleasure to hear from the person whose voice has given my so much pleasure over the years.

Thanks Yvonne.

Wow! Yvonne Elliman? Man, I was just groovin' to "If I Can't Have You" the other day, wondering, "What ever happened to Yvonne Elliman?"

Welcome, Yvonne!

Yvonne, if you make it back, Big Poppa is Sterling Ball, son of Ernie Ball, maker of all things bass that we love here.

And a very good friend of mine.

He's also tight with Albert Lee and Steve Lukather, both of whom I'm sure you will recall, heh heh.

Oh - and a chick magnet, so be careful.
