Hi,
I tried a Bongo 5 HH in a store in Melbourne, Australia (The Bass Center, South Melbourne), and INSTANTLY fell in love - but the color wasn't what I wanted so I asked how long it would take for a Candy Red bass to arrive if I ordered it today (03/28/2011) and I was told it would be at least 4 months!!!!
Does anyone know why it would take so long???

Hey Andrew,
Since November??? AGONY!!! Oh well, my gran used to say "The best things in life are worth waiting for ..." and the Bongo is the best bass I've ever played so I guess it will be worth the wait. But I'd still like to know why ;-).

Quite the agony my friend!
I didn't even get to play one! I've wanted to get into 6'ers for a long time and thought I'd go for the best!
$4000 later here we are. Still waiting, but it'll be all worth it in the end. I can't wait! My dealer and I are hoping the first half of April.. Everyone's excited for this thing! ;)

Well, the wait begins. I hope I can stand it! And you can add my hopes for the first half of April for your 6'er as well :). It looks like it will be August for me!

It'll take (at least) four months because the bass you want won't start being built until after you order it. It's not like they have them hanging on a wall in the factory waiting to be shipped.

Just for Your comfort, ...I've been waiting 5 months and few days my Reflex on order to arrive, but now I'm happy, happy just like smiley shaped preamp section on RX basses. :)

Hammo... Figure 3 to 5 months for production from the time you order. Then add the travel time from California to Austrailia. I think 4 months is a fair estimate. Also keep in mind EBMM does not keep an inventory so your bass will be custom made to your specs at the time of your order. Hope this helps out some. JOSH

Any MM bass is definitely worth the wait. When my Sterling 5HH was ordered it was going to be a 3 month wait for production. My dealer stayed on top of the inventory list for available basses. One came up matching what I wanted minus the PG color. I can easily change a PG if I choose. I scooped it up, and only had to wait a month for delivery. But I credit his attention to the list for my score.

The other thing to take into account as well as production and shipping time, is that the EBMM distributor in Australia receives a consolidated bulk delivery that contains orders and stock for all the EBMM dealers in the country. It's not like single basses are arriving on their doorstep every day of the week.

Considering what Mark mentioned and the Just In Time production method, four months is actually fast for an overseas order.

I ordered my SR4 (through Bass Centre) late December, and just got word that it'll be on the next shipment. So that'll be pretty close to 4 months. It's been a hard wait, but I'm excited that it's now nearly over.

The guys at Bass Centre have been great to deal with too. Would highly recommend them.
