fret buzz ( par for the course for musicman basses?)

undefinedundefinedi went into soundcontrol ( a guitar shop) in jamaca street in glasgow today, in my lunch hour to enquire about the fret buzz on my newly aquired musicman bass sr5, he said "welcome to musicman" insinuating that this was a very regular thing for owners of musicman basses. he said he could fix it but it would reappear all the time like every couple of days/weeks, surely not man! i thought when i got one of these guitars i was buying an instrument that i would never have a problem with, everyone spoke of it in hallowed tones, undefined"they have no wolf notes" they are guitar heaven etc etc, this fret buzz scene has put a big dampner on my dream of guitar heaven, tell me it's not true.....please......

click on the link, Gav gives a verry good info on how to set up your bass.
Honestly once you've set it good you shouldn't have much problem .. many of us have gone through fret buzz prob .

It's not true man! Every bass I have has periods of buzzing/not buzzing. The musicman SR5 I have buzzes the least out of all of 'em. 'Welcome to Musicman'?!?! That's just silly.

Simple. Learn how to set up your bass. It's a musical instrument, not a plug and play toaster.

undefinedundefinedundefinedi am hopeless at both "navigating a message board" and setting up basses, i think i'll leave it to the experts. the guy in the studio where we recorded our last ep is cool at stuff like that so i think i'll ask him to do it, just seeing if it was a mega common thing u know, that guy in soundcontrol said he was working with a musician who he had to fix that problem for every couple of days, that sounded bad and evil. by the way if yees are intrested my band's called secondskin, and our address is skin-site.com..

Hi up there in the North

I've got 2 SR5s. One since 98, the others a 2003 and neither of them buzz. They are my main basses and get used a lot. If I had problems with them then I wouldn't use them.

My original 98 did for a short while after it had been set-up by a local shop. Turned out to be the tech cutting one of the strings too short on the tuner post and it was buzzing behind the nut. Changed the strings again, wound the whole lot on very carefully so the exit was right at the bottom of the tuner post and probelm solved. Note you do have to trim a bit off the B because you can't get it all on. Just take your time and make it very neat and tidy.

I will never be without my SR5s so all that stuff the guy in the shop told you is b**llsh*t. MMs are great basses, very stable and brilliant to play.

Sounds like he didn't do it right in the first place.

Guitar shop employees say all sorts of things to make theirselves look knowledgable. Most of them haven't a clue.

I am familiar with Sound Control.

Take your bass to Jimmy Egypt in Otago Street if you don't want to do your own set ups. He's a real repair man.

Yep, just off Great Western Road in Otago Street. It's now called Academy of Sound though. The aforementioned Jimmy Egypt's repair shop is based there.
