I just bought a new Luke III with a rosewood neck and looked on the MM website to see if these frets are stainless and found no info. Can anyone please tell me what this guitar came with? Love this neck!!!

Anyone know why only the Petrucci has SS frets? I'd be more inclined to buy an Axis or Luke 3 if they had SS frets. Intrigued as to why only one model in the range has stainless instead of nickel silver...

I guess it sounds different. The Armada also has SS. I think all the honey burst/roasted limited edition also had SS frets on them regardless of model.

A while back we talked about stainless frets on the forum and then all of sudden(2012) musicman started using stainless on the petrucci models. I doubt us forum guys had an influence, but maybe we did. Regardless I am very happy that they are using stainless on a couple of their models. As mentioned the pdn run had stainless as well. I noticed you are new on the forum so I would say check the forum ever so often for insights into new mm info or limited runs. If you don't stick with it you miss the scoop.

Remember, the production models reflect the artists choice. As far as I remember, JP expressed a preference for the SS frets and now y'all get 'em too. Similarly, the Luke III was originally all-rosewood neck but is now roasted maple because that's what Luke prefers (he likes the feel and stability). It's all about what the artist wants and has very little to do with us.

I heard SS last longer, is it true? I'm sorry this is random! Have no idea if they have impact on sound neither. Both of my EBMM have SS on it :x

Yes, that's it right there!

Yes, typically SS frets will wear at a slower rate than nickel silver frets.

I have 4 guitars with SS Frets (EVH Wolfgang Special, Silhouette copy that I made, Axis copy with warmoth neck, and PC-1 copy with warmoth neck) and I love them - definitely they don't seem to show any signs of wear ever however there is a definite brightness associated with them compared to to my non-ss fret guitars but nothing the tone knob cannot tame.

I don't perceive a difference in tone between nickel and stainless steel frets. I've heard John Petrucci and Eddie Van Halen say the same thing.

I really love my Lukes but lack of SS is the one thing that bums me out. Would be great if I could add them as custom but since artist model you cant. another model with SS has a different neck profile so not really an option. Also bums me out that I cant get a different model with luke neck profile. Guess the only one is to buy and have refretted with preferred frets or get my own signature model ;-)

Parkers were the first to use SS in large scale production. I used to frequent the forum when I owned one and some guys have played their Flys hard for 10 to 15 years with barely any wear. There is a huge difference in the endurance of SS to Nickle frets. There is also a measurable difference in sound from one to the other....but its so slight that most people can't detect it audibly.

Would definitely have liked SS frets on my LIII but, it is not a deal breaker because like most of us, I have enough guitars to alternate between which saves the wear on the frets. If it was my ONLY guitar then, I could see how I might consider not buying a guitar unless it had SS frets. But, happily that is not the case :)
