Hi, apologies if this information is somewhere else and I have yet to find it:
I have just bought a second hand stingray 4-string fretless which was in a bit of a state. I am used to setting up guitars so duly adjusted the truss rod and then the string height to as low as I could get away with.
My question is how does intonation matter on a fretless? I have made sure each string is as equal as possible - eg a fifth fret D on the A string is directly below an A on the E string - however is this about all one can do on this type of instrument? Also are the dots in line with the frets or in the middle as on fretted instruments?
Also I noticed the magnets of the D and G strings are quite a bit higher than the E and A. Can this be adjusted to get equal response across all strings?
Finally there is a slight forward curveture towards the head of the instrument - is this to be expected with such a long neck (compared to guitars)?
Any advice/direction to appropriate links would be appreciated.
Simon
