HI,

I have a question regarding fret height. I've had three guitars that supposedly had the same frets, yet the heights felt different on all. Peavey Wolfgang, MMEVH, Silhouette Special. I don't remember the height of the EVH, but the Sil was .042, and the Wolfgang was way up there with .052(funny since Dunlop 6105 is .047 max). So here are the questions:

1)For those who have a Wolfgang, Axis/EVH, Sil; have you noticed a diffence in height?

2) What frets are on the Axis and Silhouettes? I was told that MM now uses Stewmac wire, so I'm assuming it's the tall medium .095" by .045". If this is true, what do you dress them down to.

Of all the necks, the Sil felt the best. The stock Wolfgang was too high, I had no control. I dressed them down to .047" and am in the process of bringing them down some more.

Thanks,

Al.

I have two Wolfgangs and an EBMM/EVH. The Wolfgang frets are much taller. It requires you to have a light touch otherwise the notes will go sharp and intonation will be off. This doesn't really bother me but I understand that it could bother some people depending on how they like to play.

I don't know what frets the EBMM has, I just know they are much lower. But I've never gotten the impression that the Wolfgang and EVH frets were supposed to be the same.

Thanks for the reply. Having the Sil Special really turned me on to lower frets. I like to feel the fretboard, it gives me a little more control. The only disadvantage is the right hand tapping is a little harder.

I'm curious as to what frets MM uses and how they are dressed differently for each guitar.

Here's a pic of my modded Wolfgang. It has an Air Zone and Paf Pro and coil taps

Thanks,A.

thats the main thing i didn't like about the wolfgang is the narrow and very tall frets. *and the fact its made by peavey ;-) * if they did fretwork like EBMM i would possibly be interested in getting a wolfgang standard stoptail. the archtop with stoptail would be really nice if the neck felt better. the high frets almost made the fretboard act as if it was scalloped or something. which i'm not into at all. but i here scalloped fretboards are solo-ists dreams so maybe thats why he had teh giutar made that way.
