So a short 500 mile 7 hour drive and I'm at the Dregs show. Inside I find:

DaveB, John the hetic watermelon, Yours truly and some cool guy named keith.
Keith got us really good seats so dave and john joined us

Shortly after dinner we started getting keith's money's worth. (keith bought my ticket. Thank You)

This was the best SMB set I had ever heard. They played all my favorites including Vista Grande, On The Pipe and Rising Power. I just have to say again, Best SMB set ever.

Then of course after a short break

Did I mention that we had really great seats.
All I know is that whenever I am listening to Steve Morse play guitar I am right where I am suppose to be.

All I have to say is "hereafter" baby

I really liked it when they played Kashmir

Then (always a bonus)

Steve's wife was good enough to take a picture. She's so nice. Keith wanted Steve to take the picture but that just didn't make any sense. What a great time.

From the Steve Morse websight:
January 20
Unfortunately, due to personal reasons the shows scheduled for San Diego, CA (tonight) and Tempe, AZ (tomorrow) have been cancelled. Please contact your ticket outlet for a full refund.

One of the venues left me a message saying they might reschedule. I hope everyone is allright. I am always thankful to see Steve and Dave play.

Great stuff. Interesting to see him still playing his original model.

Does he use the Y2D much?

Great pics of an amazing show Norm.

There was a Y2D on a stand onstage but he played No 1 all the way through.

IIRC Steve said the Y2D suited the more rock vibe of Deep Purple and the old faithful was best for SMB/Dregs.

It may be because he uses the guitar synth option with SMB and the Dregs, whereas with Purple, there already is a guy doing the keyboardy stuff... Well, it's just a theory ;)

That was a really great night and obviously our thoughts and well wishes go out to Steve and his wife who had to unexpectedly fly out. We were told of an emergency in Florida.

On a happier note, not only were DaveB, Norm, and Hectic John at the table, but also another old friend of mine Alan (who was a student of randy rhoads), and my former bandmate Gerry (bass/flute) who I had a falling out with several years ago. And a few tables away was another former bandmate John (vibes/sax).

The night before I had a nice conversation with Steve's wife Janine during the first couple of dregs songs. She was at Biff babies bash in the desert last year as were a couple of Steve's kids as I recall. So it was nice seeing her. She's sweet and extremely pretty. I think I asked her "Hey, your first time seeing the band?"

Also, that was the most I've ever heard steve talk during the set. He really set up the tribute song HEREAFTER to drummer Rod's wife Michelle who past away late in '05. Apparently they all knew eachother since college.

It's nice these guys still get together to play once every year or two. They all live different lives now in different parts of the country, but they also share something unique and irreplaceable.

Thanks guys.
And again, fantastic shots, norm. But didn't you take a couple hundred? :p

Hey Norm,

Dregs fans unite! That really was an awesome show! I thought that was the best I recall the SMB sounding. The Dregs were great of course - in spite of Jerry's rig poop-out. I enjoyed seeing Keith, and meeting you and DaveB and talking s%^&. I didn't get around NAMM enough the next day. I think I spent about 5 minutes at Ernie Ball, so it was funny bumping onto your there too, or were you just camping out there to save on hotel fees? I do believe there is a little something you said you were going to send me :) I'll PM.

later,
