i've been playing this wonderful SR5 for a couple of weeks now and i feel i need to comment on it a little further.

First things first, this bass looks amazing. I can't get over it. simply gorgeous. I don't want to go to California anymore as i feel that i would be dissapointed to see the real sunset ;)

Weight, that bass is really heavy. i realise now how spoiled i became playing the sterling all this time. For me the sterling is the perfect 4 string bass for weight, feel, tone. i still love it and i'm putting flats on it soon as i don't feel it's tone is different enough with the SR5 to keep rounds on it. It will give me more tone options this way.

Strings spacing, I really like it on the SR5. I'm surprised how quickly i adapted. It feels faster. I was having fun "trying" to play YYZ and it seems easier with the strings spacing on the SR5.

Pickups, HS is terrific, i can get really nice variations. From classic stingray to J to new modern tone (coils 2&3) to classic style P. this bass got it all. It's more much more limited on the sterling (single H) but the tone it has are really good too.

5 strings, that's an eye opener. Economy of movement is terrific. Practicing scales and modes is really fun on this bass. I hope it will remain fun as i really need to practice those :D I wish i had this bass when i was playing in my old blues band. The guitar player imposed a half-step down tuning which i never liked. a 4 string bass strings feels to floppy a half sttep down. Now bring on all the funky tunings i'm not worried anymore :)

Neck, i love the feel of this neck. I don't know if my sterling was supposed to feel the same way. Since i got the sterling (used) i've been maintaining it with lemon oil and some gunstock oil but it really doesn't feel anything close to the new SR5 neck. I think there might be some gunk stuck on the sterling from all these years. The former owner really used (abused?) it.

Enough rambling, this bass is amazing to play with. Thanks BP and EBMM for creating such a monster.

You had better avoid the Sterling 5, or it will getta as well.
