Working through the song list for the band I just joined...one of them is Sting's "Cowboy Song," which is typical recent Sting-ish jazzy thing.

Just fooling around, I discovered a really cool tone.

Here's the recipe:

- Bongo 5HHp (a 4 will do for you girly-men who cannot handle the thunder of the low B)
- Blend it to 100% piezo, or nearly so. If you have any mag pickups blended in, favor the bridge pickup.
- EQ flat except for the highs, which should be rolled almost all the way off
- Pluck right at the bridge, as close as you can get, fairly aggressively
- Be fast and loose with your bass line...get groovy and jazzy with it.

Bon appetit!

:D
