I received an Art & Lutherie Cedar acoustic guitar for my birthday over the holidays and I know I am going to get asked by family members to play something for them! It's been over a decade since I've done any serious playing.
The things I remember how to play won't be recognizeable by the average listener. I can still get around on the fretboard pretty well, but this is the first acoustic guitar I've ever had. So my speed is not as good as on an electric.
Anyways, what I'm looking for are some songs that I could play at a party or something of that nature. Something that the acoustic could handle nothing too complicated!

(yes I'm still planning on the EBMM!!! This guitar will buy me some time! )

Geez, foggy! Give a thread at least 24 hours before you pronounce it dead! :D

Here are some suggestions for acoustic:

* Neil Young tunes (ain't he from the Great White North?)
"Sugar Mountain", "Needle and the Damage Done", "My My, Hey Hey", "Helpless"

* Pink Floyd - "Wish You Were Here", "Hey You"

* Clapton's "unplugged" version of "Layla"

Man when I was young, we used to sit around a camp fire, and I'd play Scorpions, Priest and Maiden on the acoustic...now that's some fun rockin' good times mate!

there is this guy from NYC that I heard do a wicked version of "Kiss" by Prince.Part of his act was to stop right after playing that signiture chord(an A nine I think) and say"you know ...the only reason I learned this tune was so I could do that, then he would proceed to play a wildly reharmonised version of the tune...lots of fun.

Play Purple Haze (Em G A) and sing the lyrics to Green Acres.
Good Times!

One of the best, IMHO, is "Three Little Pigs" by Green Jelly. The song is so stupid, but so funny, I can't help but listen to it.

We will be using that in our set list in the future.

maybe a couple beatles tunes. I learned "let it be" (C, G, Am, F, C, dm,C I think) and "here comes the sun" - both are pretty easy and the melodies are really nice.

In my younger days (where certain substances were frequently injested) I used to break out a ridiculous medley of classic cartoon and televison theme songs. Easy to play and almost everyone knows the words. When the shows are legendary like Gilligan's Island and The Flintstones everyone sings along !!!

That awesome guys!
Just what I was looking for. :)

Raz, I can still play Priest, Sabbath, Ozzy, etc.... but no one knows what the hell I'm playing. :D
So a few generally recognized songs are just what I need.
