Just had a great thing happen to me this weekend...my bass was sitting on it's stand before the show this weekend, and a bassist from another band was in the audience and came up and asked me, "What kind of bass is THAT?" and I told him it was a Bongo, showed it to him....then after the first set, he came back up and asked, "Where can I get one of those? That sounds AMAZING!" during the break, 2 OTHER bassists came up to me asking what it was and complimented me on the great tone. They also wanted to know what the heck it was and how much it costs, where to get one, etc.

I kind of smiled as we went back up for our second set and realized there were probably 3 new Bongoloids created that night.

Excellent!

You see when people don't use talkbass they don't think it's ugly...or at least don't care.

Bongo: "playing is believing"

A similar thing happened to me @ a Jazz Jam night. when I took my Bongo fretless along.

Before playing: Er..? Looks weird (all the usual stuff).
After: A small group all asking questions, how much did it cost, what do the controls do, where can I get one etc etc.

I wrote my poem of praise for the Bongo (see Bongo Poetry posting) includng the line "..for playing is believing this we know" seems hearing is believing also!!

When people on TB talk crap about this forum, I defend it, so let's not put anyone in the position of wanting to defend Talkbass here. We all have the option to participate or not, so let's leave TB out of the fray, please.

This thread make me think back to late 2003, when I had one of the first Bongos my friends had ever seen. They were troubled:

Ray Duke inspects the weirdness, two other bassists (including Chuck Moses) agree that this is not something they'd want to be involved with.

And then, a couple of months later, Ray decides that he'd try it, just try it, just to be nice:

And now Ray has had more than a few Bongos and Chuck reminds me occasionally that if I ever want to sell that particular HH Bongo 5, he's first on the list.

I played my Bongo at a Christian retreat in Columbus, OH, this weekend. One of the guys there wanted to try it out, and I had to pry it back out of his hands to play my set!

I'm always getting the raised eyebrow at Revivals and when we play at other Church's on occasion. I was asked what my Bongo was, I said it was like a "P Bass on Steroids!!!" The greatest Bass ever created under Heaven........:D
