Got back from G3 in Nashville yesterday (the show was on Tues. night). It was simply awe inspiring to say the least. I had never gotten to see any of these guys play live before so it was an all around treat for me, especially.
I am a huge Petrucci fan, so let me get that out of the way first. However, I've not been a real big fan of DT and rarely listen to their music. I have tons of Petrucci stuff, though... his instructional books (Rock Discipline, Wild Stringdom) and the Rock Discipline DVD, as well as an original Ibanez JPM-P1 which is easily one of my most collectible and favorite guitars.
So, knowing how great John is I am still thinking that his set is going to be slightly on the boring side because I felt that Paul and Satch were going to be more entertaining and their music easier to follow in a live context. Boy was I wrong. John's set was one of the most inspirational and amazing musical performances I have ever seen. His tone, his note choices and the songs he played were simply stunning. My wife was standing there dumbfounded and hasn't stopped talking about it since. I was already a fan before seeing John, but now I am REALLY a fan of John Petrucci. Holy crap!
Here are a few pics from a guy I know who I found at the concert (he's also from Memphis). Didn't even know he was there until after. He was sitting stage left, front row... so he got great pics of John.

Paul pulled out the drill, so John pulled out the chicken!
He still played amazing well with it, but tossed it pretty quickly... it was really funny, though, they way they set it up.
This was after a ridiculous run that probably melted his pick.
This was after the chicken incident. Paul was answering a blazing run from John in a little trade off back and forth. John was easily the fastest. Not sure Paul was even seriously trying to one up him.
I was an awesome show. Afterwards I got meet Gilbert, but John and Satch ducked out early. I buddied up to the runner for John's bus and he told me that John and Portnoy's families were en-route to meet them in Nashville to hang out for some of the next few dates. So John was preoccupied with personal matters and didn't really have that much time. He did pop out to sign a few autographs, but we were over at Gilbert's bus when he did that.
I got to meet Mark Tremonti, who saw the whole show and is in Nashville recording the next Alter Bridge album. Got to talk to him for a little while and he was really a super nice guy. Toshi Iseda was there with him, but he wasn't quite as approachable.
All in all it was a very cool experience! All three guys played an incredible show!!
