Went to rehearsals with the Big Love band tonight!

Was having a great time!

When suddenly....................

 My MarkBass amp died! (No funeral home jokes please)

So, I packed it up and brought it home.

Plugged it in at home and it fired right up!

So, does anyone know if they have an overheat protection switch in them?

Just curious.

All the best, Ritchie

What cabs were you using it with?

I've heard of one person who had his head do the same thing when the problem ended up being his two 8 Ohm cabs were not actually running a total 4 Ohm load and the amp was protectively shutting down. (LMII running at a minimum 4 Ohm load)

I think they have one. I recall reading about other such events but can't remember exact details. Not too many amps don't come with them anymore. Cheap circuit to protect expensive equipment.

As SMB points out, read the manual and make sure you are adhering to the recommended operating parameters. Cabs are usually rated as nominal. Impedance curves depend on frequency. So you may have minimums below 8 ohms on each cab which when you parallel 2 can create an impedance load under 4 ohms.

Yes, they do have a thermal protection circuit, but you're just the second person I've read about who has had their amp shutdown.

All I can say is your rehearsal must be freaking LOUD if you needing to push a 500w amp to the point that it overheats. With my Markbass LMII under a 4ohm load with two cabs I've never had the master past 9 o'clock against two guitars, a hard hitting drummer and keyboards. Something doesn't sound right to me.

Not all that loud really.

But, it is rather warm in the place.

An older house with gas heating in the floor.

And the keyboard player reported an overheat as well.

So, I think maybe a little more ventilation is in order.
