I don't what it is about sterling basses that are catching my attention recently. Perhaps it's the looks. The closest i ever got to playing Sterlings was when i had my Sterling Ray 34. I currently own 2 Stingrays. I love the thinner necks as they are more comfortable to play. Playing my black/maple stingray has made me realize this. I love my slo special Stingray but for some reason i feel i havent been getting that tone that sounds good to my ears anymore. I know it's not the battery i checked. I love the beefiness a Stingray gives but i heard Sterlings have alot of Aggresiveness and attack. To be honest i got into Stingray's because of Johnny Christ. I know i'm very fortunate to have 2 stingray's at my age and i don't even have a year playing yet soon once the summer hits.

i'd like to know who prefers what over what. oh to be young lol.

Sterlings ROCK!

Of the two, I prefer Sterlings over StingRays. Just my opinion, of course.

I don't know why you're GASing for a Sterling either! ;)

Seriously though, I originally wanted a Sterling when I decided to dive into the world of EBMM basses, because of my preference for Jazz style necks. At the time I had a Jazz and wanted to stay in that physical range regarding necks.

They sound great and the necks feel good, but something about the body size didn't work for me. Bought a Stingray despite my preference for Jazz necks and the rest is history! :)

My new Classic 'Ray neck is somewhere in between my '08 Stingray and my '08 Jazz, it's ideal! :)

YMMV, that's why they make so many different models! Something for everyone! :)

yeah again i love the sound that stingray's give. maybe it's just something that'll pass by. i'm young but at least i know that i give it time and it'll go away. i generally love punk, metal, alternative and hard rock. my stingrays can do it all. i guess maybe the nice little pickup variaty sterlings have that fasciantes me. i probably should've played the HH more at GC. i guess the tone my ear wants to hear os changing.

I stumbled onto my Sterling 15 years ago. The size, weight, and neck shape really suited me right away.
I owned a 20th anniversary SR (the one with the maple cap and tort p/g) for a while and it was just too bulky for me.
I have played hundreds of long 3 set gigs with my trusty Sterling. It travels well and sounds great. Mine is not really special to look at especially compared to some of the gorgeous choices that have come down the pike since (I like to go to Bass Central's site and drool) but I can't justify replacing it or getting another one when there are so many other EBMMs to get.
