So I pulled the trigger on a Honeyburst/Black Sterling HS. I'm the first person to order a Music Man from Garrett Park Guitars here in Annapolis, Maryland (land of Paul Reed Smith). Rick Hogue at GP Guitars is a real nice guy and I hope EBMM works out for him.

So I'm a mediocre bass player who is too busy as an anesthesiologist (hence the name) and a father of two rugrats and I have an OK Schecter Custom 4 and was gonna go for an Fender American Jazz cause as you all know better gear makes me play better  ...

Always liked the Jazz neck so when I picked up SR's I thought, huh, great, but P-bass-ish, so put it down, until this salesguy handed me a Sterling... Then it was all over. Damn you all!

So headed on this site and all you Bonker Bongo people have got me gassing for that now, too. (I'm getting over the neck cause, oh, the tone and feel!)

Thanks for letting me say "hi".

Jack, you here?

Thanks for the welcome, guys. Steve & Jack, look forward to doing business! Sharon, are you lucky enough to work from home with a hi-res system - I wish I could sit and play bass while working... Maddog, thanks for the beer and I like the pigtails.

Hey Fog and James,

This is an addiction. I am very much amazed at how active this forum is, considering how the topic's pretty "focused".

Hey, so I did a little searching here, and couldn't get a good answer. I see all these gawd-ly huge stacks of 4x10's and 500W heads. Will my little Fender Bassman 15x1 Combo do my Sterling (and hopefully Bongo) justice or will I have to spend more money to buy more crack, er, I mean gear... I got the 15 thinking it would fit a mellow passive Fender, but now, I'm thinking I need 2x10's for punch.

The gas passer sayeth "I am getting sleepy,"

The amplification is the limiting factor with an EBMM. Travis swears by the Bergantino 2x10. I'm probably picking one up after I get back from vacation.

Sometimes it amazes me, too. Sometimes it also worries me.

Ed, I have a fair amount of bass amplification machines around. There might even be a 1200 watt setup....and a Euphonic Audio iAMP 800 and I also believe I spy a Peavey.

Here's the thing. A good bass is going to sound good through a decent amp. I have an Ampeg combo, fifty whole watts and one speaker, and all my basses sound perfectly good through that little babe.

Now, if I want to destroy Tokyo, I'm not taking the little Ampeg. But for here at home, or a small party or rehearsal or something? It's just fine.

So it depends on what you want to do with your basses, I'd say.

Get my email?

Welcome GB! I too am the proud new owner of a Sterling(HH though) and yes.... my Bongo 5s haven't seen me lately, the neck on the Sterling is just crazy.
As for amps.....
I'm waiting for my SVT4 Pro to show up and I'll be putting it through an SVT112, yes 1200W into a 1 x12" (i like the headroom)
but after using 12s and a kooky good Crate 1x15" combo , unless it's 4x10" or more I really don't dig 10"s anymore. But hey, I'm also eyeing up some Phil Jones 5"s :D
anywho, welcome to the group! all the best.
