You aren't supposed to list store prices on the forum.

Please delete the prices from your thread before the hand of God comes and smites you. Well, either the hand of God, or Jack when he gets back from the doctor.

smite
v 1: inflict a heavy blow on, with the hand, a tool, or a weapon
2: cause pain or suffering in; "afflict with the plague";

You do not want this. You better edit that post! ;)

Albany NY GC has two EBMMs with silly-lowball clearance prices:

Graphite SR4 3EQ [black PG] ... and ... Lava B4HH [white ice PG]

I got my trade-in axes in the truck and I work 3 blocks form this GC, so the Bongo might be gone soon. Depends on whether they are generous enough in their trade-in offers.

Midday Edit:
The Bongo is gone. Mine. In it's place, however, you will find a very very mojofied Sabre. Now we can't talk specific price here, but that Sabre is in on their books at about half the tagged price of an EB SUB 4-string .....

Very Pleased with the transaction and the staff was knowledgeable and helpful.

Thanks for taking care of that, I Can't Believe It's Not ButterBass.

Smiting is not my favorite activity here. I'd much rather read the Guitar Center threads. Ahem.

You get that one at GC here in Tucson? I think I have it's twin.

I was pleased with my GC foray. I'm not a fan of the hustle and bustle so I only visit when I feel brave. I didn't have to search out a salesguy but I didn't get attacked either. I told the salesman I wanted a Bongo5, he immediately retrieved a ladder and got the bass down. Asked me which of the two dg ones I wanted. He disappeared for about 5 minutes, I assumed to check on the price and to let me try it out. I plunked a few notes, noted some wear spots but didn't take it for an extended test drive because I knew I wanted the beast. We talked, he cut me a deal, tuned her up, checked the action, shined her up, and threw in some strings. I gave him my credit card, he gave me my receipt and I was on my way.

Again, I'm not a fan of the hustle and bustle so my visits are few and far between but I don't have anything bad to say about the staff and stock.

1 Bongo 5
1 SR 5
1 Sterling
1 SR HH w/ a bad volume pot

I was at my friendly neighborhood GC last night to pick up an empty box (selling a fretless) and to see if they have a Tony Levin sig OLP, just for grins (no). No SR5s and no HH models, other than one Bongo 5 I've seen before on previous visits. It's hanging out of reach, facing a corner (!), with the tag hanging so that you can't see the price, and it's got a bent volume pot. Don't EVEN get me started.

No blowout prices, at least none that I could actually see.

At least they HAVE EBMM basses that you can actually pick up and play, the sales folks are friendly and non-pushy, and they always have cute girls guarding the door.

First of all: WELCOME, Pilgrim.

GC seems to be a great source of Desert Gold White Ice HH5's, as that is also what I picked up at their Labor Day clearance. Today, I got a 4HH to keep it company and to replace my Sabre, which has always been too raucous and brutal sounding for most of our stuff.

Anyway, the Bongo can do that noisy work if called upon, but it can also do the "Deep Talking" [to steal a phrase from LaBella strings], which the Sabre just never understood, even with a BassLines alnico in the neck spot.

The Sherman Oaks GC has a formidible EBMM bass selection. Last time I checked, which was a few days after the dual pickup models hit the GC stores, they had SRs, Sterlings, SR5s, Bongos, SUBs (passive and active), the two dual pickup models, and even a pre-EB SR. Great selection! :)

My local GC's(Rancho Cucamonga and San Bernardinio) both have had Bongos, SR5's and Sterlings at clearance prices since Labor Day.Same ones and no one has bought them, I can't understand why? I would pick one up but I just filled my "one new bass every five years" quota with a new SR4 in September.......

You know, I played that bass and sounded nothing like that.

There is a lesson in there somewhere, but damned if I can tease it out into the light.

The single H Bongo is the only reason I haven't yet ordered a HH SR5.

Big Poppa - he's evil.
