Saw a great looking used Axis on the CG used site that just happened to be (somewhat) local. One of the GC run, with the covered pickups. Went by after work to check it out and, while the guitar was in decent shape overall, the neck pickup was really loose.

I asked the salesman to try tightening it & he said the screws were as tight as they could go. He then had his "tech" come over, who said, "that's nothing to worry about, it's fine", the front pickup's not supposed to be tight. WTF?

Nothing to worry about, it's called "garbage in / garbage out". Happens everywhere in the music biz at one time or another. Nothing that's isolated to GC though.

Good thing is that you knew it was not supossed to be that way, and actually it's a "slam dunk" fix! See if you can get a good buy on it, then put in a new screw yourself!

Really a loose neck pickup bothered you that much? Stick a piece of foam under the pickup and the problem is solved.

Sometimes I don't understand how guitars get messed up, but then I think back when I was 15. LOL beginners... don't they know they are supposed to "screw" with the pickups on a $300 guitar not a $1000+ guitar. It always frustrates me to have patchwork done on guitars too, because it's just not the same. Once you remove the wood it's gone bye bye not coming back.

GC does not put any effort into setting up guitars. New or used. The guitar can be fixed easily. If you like it buy it.
