Hey how are you all.

I need some advice on purchasing a Ernie Ball bass.

I currently play a Ibanez sound gear SRX 400 and also own a SRX 300. :p

I'm looking at buying my first musicman and wanted a stingray but maybe SUB.Can anyone tell me the difference?

Also i can get a SUB for $1,175. that brand new in Australian dollars ordered form a local music store. Apparently thats 30% off can anyone tell me if that is a good price or if im getting ripped off?

I thought it was good cos a lot of stingrays i looked at were up to $3,495.

All advice welcome.

If Gav doesn't reply PM me and I'll point in the right direction. 30% is probably the best you'll do, I'm just not sure on the RRP. But the EBMM are the best.

yeah mate i dont think its that great of a reduction. although it is less than retail, most places will have their own 'special' which is around that price. check out www.guitar.com.au or www.musicianswarehouse.com.au . im guessing ure after a four string...was it active or passive?

do alot of research you may even find you are better to get a used stingray on ebay in aust or sent from overseas. depends on what your budget is like.

hope that helps

Prices in Aust are rediculuos.

But that's not the fault of EB.

My last quote on a garden variety Ray in Natural with Rose and and Black pg was $3,800 (discounted!!!).

On top of that, I was told there's no such thing as a 2 banger EQ

Most certainly did!

Asked him to pull out the manuels. Some MM geeks were there too. Gave them a rundown of the options.

BP would have been proud of me.

Yeah im after a four string Active.

Just for future reference on the stingray, cos i do intend on getting one one day, how much better are th peizo pickups? do they steer away fromthe typical MM sound very much?
In the SUB that i'll probaly get im probaly gonna get seymore duncan MMreplacement pickups, like the ones the bassist in frenzal rhomb uses (in his stingray4string(tom crease)).

Also on my shopping list, Eden WorldTour head and four Ampeg 4x10 boxes :p

The pickup in the Sub is, I believe, the same one that is the Ray. Most people who are not Seymour Duncan or endorsed by Seymour Duncan will tell you it is a mistake to replace the stock pickup in a Musicman Bass.

YOU'LL BE SORRY! But if you decide to do so I will gladly trade you the Seymore Duncans I have in a Hamer for your MM's from the SUB or whatever EBMM you purchase.

if you want to eventually own a stingray i say go for it first time.

this is my story... *fade in fuzzy focus screen* i was looking at subs because i didnt think id ever afford anything more, especially not the sr5 that my bass hero played. however someone encouraged me that i could wait and save longer and buy the real thing...i did a tonne of research, asked some dumb questions, asked a few smart ones and saved....a year later and here i am, perfecting my secret handshake with BP and waiting a few days till my first ebmm arrives at my front door, a 5HHP bongo.
you can do anything if you believe *fade back*

haa haa just had to put that last line in for kicks.

but really if you have your heart set on a stingray, go for it. you'll lose less money in the resale of other basses and youll be so chuffed with yourself. check out the used ones that are around, most of them are in excellent condtion. and if you want to ask me any qu just drop me a pm. im not as knowledgable as the others though, specially gav. ;)

It would even be cheaper to go through someone who sells online from the states (there are a few blokes here I believe) and get it shipped to australia.... it would perhaps work out close to aud1000 - aud500 cheaper... then what you can do is play them to death at the music stores, as if you have it on layby, but tell them you are reall researching your option... this will get their hopes up. Once they realise you haven't bought from them - they may think that you are a 'real' player in terms of procuring instruments.. and offer you better deals.... then again I may be talking out of my ass!!

Yes, I'm afraid you might be doing just that.

No dealer in the States is authorized to sell or ship overseas. Playing a US dealer against the Australian distributor would be a very, very bad idea, both for us, Ernie Ball and the Australian music retailers.

So that avenue is clearly out, yes?

Mmmmmmm, Basssssss

Heh heh yeah it's out.

Ummmm i'll get back to you on those pickup's cos i wanna play it as a original for a while and from what i gather from you blokes is it's probaly not the best decision...

Cheers for the words of wisdom Tiffles, i will definetly get one soon, But the SUB is on it's way!! Shoulda been here today actually ... im selling 1 or 2 of my other guitars and my drum kit to pay off the SUB and SRX 400 and then i'll probaly go the stingray and sell the SUB, BBUUTT before i do that i wanna get a 5 string something or rather.. gotta do some research...

Also i noticed Bovine or Lazy had Some Hartke gear as a signature, i use Hartke 3000 head and Hartke XL series quad, i was thinking about getting another box and maybe switching to VX boxes and selling off the XL.

Bad idea? Disscuss...

Cheers guy's, you've all been very helpful :D :D :D
