Good day. First post whooo hooo.

I hate strats  If I was to route out and install a single coil between the two humbuckers, wire like a strat and install a couple of mini toggles to coil cut the hummers how close to Hendrix Strat sounds will I get. I know it sounds like a lot of work but if it sounds right it would be worth it.

Depends who's playing the guitar... ;)

Lets assuming that a decent seasoned guitar player with the right effects is playing the guitar. Will it get a strat sound (taking into account the different scale and headstock angles and all that jazz)?

It does have the same scale neck as a strat. 25.5
and you should already be wired for some 'inbetween' tones on a sport.
I get a fine castles made of sand, wait untill tommoro tone from my supersport's

Besides Hendrix had alot of strat tones!
Can you be more specific as to what tone's?

I gotta agree with Steve B

and with the price that a competent tech would charge to destr...*cough* modify your axe,routing-wiring-parts you could probably buy a single coiled axe...

Your gonna abuse an Axis like that. I'd say, get yourself a Morse or Silhouette and then add the mini toggles to the pickguard. The routing shoudl be there and there should be enough room to add what you want or reconfigure the pickup arrangements to get the sound that you are looking for. Someone please correct me on this if I've gotten anything wrong.

If memory serves me right the older Silhouette could swap out the the pikguards via Molex connectors for whatever pickup configuration that you want.

Hope this helps, Glenn |B)

Do you hate Strats because you can't reproduce their sound or do you hate them in general??????

I am seriously anti Fender...G&L and EBMM all the way. I love the sound of strats and have owned many early japanese copies which were excellent guitars.

Cost about 100 bucks Canadian plus the cost of the pup for local tech (who is very good) to do it.

I can get some good Hendrix tones out of it now but the inbetweens are just a little too weak and sterile sounding for me. I love how the guitar plays and it does every type of music well but nothing really exceptionally well. I have an arsenal of guitars and if I really need a very specific sound I end up pulling out one of those and I use the Axis Sport as the jackofalltrades guitar.

Resale on EBMM's is just dumb luck I think, you know, right place, right time sort of thing.

I have 2 Axes Sports and I think that there quality stands up to an ASS. Don't butcher it we've seen a lot of hacks to EBMM's on EvilBay lately and it's a tragity. You want to hack something get an OLP or something. If you mode doesn't work, then you left with something your probably not going to want to use and something nobody else will want either.

What's the config on the Sport? Just curious?

Lew, that's what I was trying to get at. There are a few differences, but to take a router to any EBMM is like routing that guys 52 tele, it's just wrong. You don't butcher a perfectly good guitar to get a different sound, you look for another guitar to get you that sound. JimiD pointed this out by displaying the Axis Sport SSH combination.

You will all be happy to know that I ended buying a strat for my hendrix tones (even a lefty) so ........ no Axis Sports were harmed during this thread. Thanks for setting me straight.
